1. Choose 1 of the negative impacts of Tourism on the environment.

It is vital to leverage natural and cultural resources when managing a tourism enterprise’s.
However, overusing or misusing these vital resources will result in increased pollution due to uncontrolled
resource waste, traffic emissions, littering, increased sewage production, and noise. One of the example of
negative impacts of tourism on the environment is the overcrowding and misuse of natural resources and
its buildings and infrastructure. These effects could be both physical and cultural. Furthermore, the situation
would worsen if the number of tourists increases or the resources are depleted.

2. Explain how this negative impact is physically seen, felt or evidenced.

The evidenced of it is, if local residents have been displaced for want of coastal area development.
Additional people in the area may necessitate the use of more natural resources, resulting in the depletion
of natural resources. Waste disposal issues arise, and if suitable actions are not taken to address them, the
situation may deteriorate. Pollution in the area increases as a result of increased foot traffic, increased
transportation, increased noise, and incorrect garbage disposal, disrupting the region's ecological balance.
Also, because of the region's strong traffic, the infrastructure may not be able to handle the increased
demand, resulting in overcrowding and poor cleanliness, which may lead to diseases both to the tourists as
well as local people. Aside from that, the presence of outsiders in the area may disrupt the local culture and
cause dissatisfaction among the inhabitants. Second, the demonstration effect may cause locals to copy the
lifestyles of tourists, perhaps leading to the extinction of traditional customs and traditions. And lastly, if
certain people engage in criminal acts in order to get quick money from tourists, this leads to greater crime
and anti-social behavior, as well as a loss of moral and religious values.

3. Give a specific destination in the Philippines where we can see this negative impact in
action.

This negative impact is very visible on one of the Philippines' top beaches and most visited tourist
attractions, Boracay Island. Boracay is a small island in the Central Philippines' Aklan province. Boracay,
with its white sandy beaches, blue water and turquoise ocean, was awarded the best island in the world, as
well as one of the 25 most beautiful islands in the world, and the seventh most beautiful in Asia. However,
we all know that in April 2018, Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the closure of Boracay due
to pollution caused by a massive influx of tourists, a lack of proper sewage and waste management systems,
environmental violations of establishments aggravate environmental degradation and destroy the island's
ecological balance, resulting in major damage to property and natural resources, as well as the disruption
of the normal way of life of the local people. Also it is exacerbated by the presence of numerous hotels and
inns on Boracay island and it is estimated that the waste produced by every person in Boracay is three times
higher compared to the Capital City Manila.

The negative effects of human presence and activity in tourism places should cause us to re-evaluate
the tourism strategies that we have been using for so long. If not, natural tourism areas that were once
gorgeous and breath-taking we admired, like Boracay Island, would soon be wrecked and polluted.
