I INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this document is to calculate CT burden & knee point voltage required for
132KV switchyard for 1 X 40 MW Thermal Power Plant at Sarshatali, West Bengal.
1.0 Metering CT

5.0 Bus Bar Protection ( High Impedence)

Voltage (VEF) across the shunt connected relay can be calculated using following equation.
VEF = (IEF / r). (RL + RW2) Where, IEF = Primary through fault current.
r = CT Ratio
RW2 = CT sec. wdg. resistance
RL = Lead Resistance
IEF (Prim .Through fault)= 40000 A
r = 1000
RL = 2.438 ( As calculated above)
RW2 = 6 (To be given by Vendor)
Where,
VR = Pick-up threshold voltage
Vkp = 2 x 405
Vkp = 810 V
Hence, minimum knee point voltage for 1000/1A Cl. PS CT may be 1000 V with Rct = 6ohm
may be considered.

Hence, minimum knee point voltage for 1000/1A Cl. PS CT may be 1000 V with Rct = 6ohm
