I. INTRODUCTION

RetailCo is known to be a leading retailer and like other come companies it


encounters continuing difficulties in retaining its leading status among its
competitors in the industry.

II. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

RetailCo wants to maintain its leading status as a retailer and in order to resolve
the problem in experiencing difficulties in the competition, the company decided to
use some HRD where in 56,000 staff on a 10-million-pound initiative in retail
motivation training. It is a day-long training session run by a motivational guru. Staff
of each stores will attend the event in the group of 5000 and will be led by team
leaders. Psychological self-assessment will be conducted at the start of each session
wherein good points and bad points will be assessed followed by tips on how to treat
customers.
They were given top 14 tips during their HRD.

In this case, I use the point of view of the RetailCo. top management.

V. PROBLEM OF THE CASE

The main problem in this case is that how would RetailCo retain as a
leading retailer despite of experiencing continuing difficulties with its
competitors which may be caused by poor employees’ performance.

VIII. ALTERNATIVE COURSES OF ACTION (ACA)

ACA No. 1: CONDUCT MORE TRAININGS FOR EMPLOYEES IN A GIVEN


TIMEFRAME

Advantages:
a. It will help employees to be more self-aware about their working attitude
and performance
b. It will help employees how to handle customers especially when it comes to complaints.
b. The company will be able to maintain loyal customers.

     Disadvantages:
a. The additional cost may add up to the price of their company’s expenses.
b. It will decrease time of employees
c. Retaining their leading status will not be absolute
 

ACA No. 2: INCREASE SALARIES 

Advantages:
a. It will increase the morale of employees and employees will be more motivated
b. It will inspire employees to work harder

     Disadvantages:
a. Additional expense for the company
b. Not an absolute assurance that they will treat their customers well.

ACA No. 3: WARNINGS AND LAYOFFs TO UNPRODUCTIVE EMPLOYEES

Advantages:
a. It will make employees to be more careful in their jobs
b. Opportunities to hire new employees with outstanding records

     Disadvantages:
a. It may draw great pressure among employees

IX. RECOMMENDATION

I recommend to used ACA#1, Conducting more trainings for employees


will help them improve their services to customers. Good customer service will
attract more loyal customers even new one. This will help the company gain
more sales and retain their status as leading employees. Even if we give
increase salaries for employees, it will not enough for them to work effectively.
Trainings and seminars will equip employees and improve their skills. When
employees work effectively and efficiently, good image of the company will be
created and this will attract a lot of customers and revenues.
