Anna Ashram: Spectrum of Anna Ideologies

Introduction

There is a general perception that Anna Hazare evolved during 2011, however,
it is untrue. Anna Hazare has spent his entire life serving the Nation, even after
his retirement from the Indian Army, he contributed to society in many ways.

Once he said -

“If the village perishes, India will perish too. It will be no more India. Her own
mission in the world will get lost.” - M.K. Gandhi

Then let’s go to Village to develop. Governments in turn took developments to

Cities, smart cities etc. which is stressing the environment of these already
overloaded cites.

Anna Hazare took upon himself to rid Ralegan Siddhi of its miseries and
transform it into a prosperous village which feeds into the development of
India. Through watershed management and improvement in the overall
environment, he could bring about a change in the social structure of the
village and became a leader that everyone came to respect.

"The process of Ralegan's evolution to an ideal village will not stop, with
changing times people tend to evolve in new ways. In future Ralegan might
present a different model to the country."
A GLIMPSE OF RALEGAN SIDHI: -

- For water harvesting, 48 null bunds, 5 cement check dams and 16 Gabion
structures have been constructed under Hazare’s guidance
- Earlier only 300–350 acres of land for one crop were harvesting, now it is
more than 1500 acres for two crops
- Earlier only 300 liters of milk was sold, now it is more than 4000 liters.
- The per capita income has been increased from Rs. 225 to 2500.
- Villagers constructed buildings worth Rs.1 crore for school, hostel and
gymkhana through financial contributions and shaman
- In the last 35 years, many institutions and cooperatives like Gram
Panchayat, Co-Consumer Society, Co-Credit Society, Co-Dairy,
Educational Society, Women’s Organization and Youth Organization, with
different mandates are operating in Raegan Siddhi
- Liquor, Cigarettes, Beedis, Gurkhas, Tobacco. Etc. are not sold in the
village last 13 years.
- Thousands of visitors, not only from India, but also from abroad, have
visited & are still visiting Raegan Siddhi to study the impact of watershed
development
- After the success of watershed development programmed in Raegan
Siddhi, Hazare replicated it in the neighboring four villages.

There are a lot of communities around the world that are living today in the
conditions that Ralegan Siddhi was living in in 1975. The story of Ralegan
Siddhi is a story of hope.
