1. List out the Features of 1G, 2G , 3G and 4G Wireless Systems.

2. Discuss the following terms:

(i) Explain Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs).
(ii) Bluetooth (iii) Personal Area Networks (iv) WLL

3. Explain M ary Quadrature Amplitude modulation technique with respect to bandwidth and
power efficiency for various values of M

4. What you mean by Spread Spectrum in communication? Explain FH-SS (Frequency

Hopping Spread Spectrum) with the aid of block diagram.

5. Illustrate the overview of IEEE802.11 wireless LAN standard and 2400MHz

channelization scheme for IEEE802.11

6. Define M-ary Phase Shift Keying (MPSK). Explain the MPSK modulation with related
equations and constellation diagram for 8-PSK.

7. Discuss the performance of frequency hopping spread spectrum and advantages of it over
direct sequence spread spectrum

8. Explain the TDMA hyperframe structure with relevant diagram and explain its fields

9. Discuss the features of FDMA and non linear effects in FDMA

10. Explain Packet radio access technique and discuss types of Pocket radio protocols

11. Explain the concept of pure ALOHA and Slotted ALOHA protocols and also determine the
maximum throughput that can be achieved using ALOHA and slotted ALOHA protocol.

12. Explain CDMA and its features.

13. Define the following terms of CSMA protocols.

(i) 1-persistent CSMA.
(ii) Non-persistent CSMA.
(iii) P-persistent CSMA.
(iv) CSMA/CD (CSMA with collision detection)
(v) Data sense multiple access (DSMA)

14. The GSM System uses a frame structure where each frame consists of eight time slots, and
each time slot contains 156.25 bits, and the data is transmitted at 270.833 kbps in the
channel, compute (i) the time duration of a bit, (ii) the time duration of a slot, (iii) the time
duration of a frame and (iv) how long must a user occupying a single time slot wait
between two successive transmissions.

15. If W= 1.25 MHz , R= 9600bps and a minimum acceptable Eb/N0 is found to be 10 dB,
determine the maximum number of users that can be supported in a single-cell CDMA
system using (i) omnidirectional base station antennas and no voice activity detection, and
(ii) three-sectors at the base station and activity detection with α = 3/8. Assume the system
is interference limited.
