Semi-Detailed Lesson in English 6 (Sample)

Date: April 29, 2021

I. Objectives
At the of the 60 minute period, the students are expected to:
a. identify the context clues, and
b. use sentence and word context to find meaning of unknown words.

II. Subject Matter


Topic: Vocabulary Enhancement
Lesson: Context Clues
Materials: PowerPoint presentation, Projector, Laptop, book, Pictures
Reference: English for All Times Reading 6
Purificacion C. Balingit

III. Procedure:
A. Review of the past lesson
Ask the class about the previous lesson.
Questions:
1. What have you learned from the past lesson?
2. Can you me some examples?

B. Motivation
Introduce the game “Guess the Word” by giving sample.
Instructions:
The teacher will show pictures to the class and will ask the class to
guess the word that is depicted in the picture.

C. Activities
Divide the class into two groups.
Introduce the “Get the Meaning” game.
Each group is expected to follow the instructions given by the teacher.
Instructions:
The teacher will show a sentence in class. Each sentences has an
underlined word. The group will tell what is the meaning of the
underlined word in the sentence based on its function/usage. The
first group to give the correct answer will gain 5 points.

D. Abstraction
Proceed to the lesson which is Vocabulary Enhancement.
Ask the class to go over their book on page 67.
Ask the class about their ideas in Vocabulary Enhancement.
Introduce the meaning of Vocabulary Enhancement.
Introduce the vocabulary in context clues.
Discuss the context clues and its type.

E. Application
The teacher let the students read the questions on the screen and let
them answer each item.

IV. Assessment
The students will answer the given statement by finding the words using
vocabulary in context.

V. Assignment
Give an example of a sentence for each type of the context clues:
1. Rewording the word.
2. Giving its Synonym.
3. Giving its Antonym.
4. Giving details about the word.
