Summary
“A Face in the Dark” by Ruskin Bond is set in Shimla, a town in Himachal
Pradesh, India where an Anglo-Indian teacher Mr. Oliver teaches in a reputed
English public school. He is a bachelor and goes to the market some three miles
away in the evening and returns back to school at night daily. He takes the
shortcut way through the pine forest.
One day when he is returning late at night, the wind is making an eerie sound
through the pine trees and the batteries of his torch are running down. Suddenly,
he comes across a boy who is crying silently, sitting on a rock. when the boy
looks up, Mr. Oliver sees that the boy has no eyes, ears, nose, or mouth on his
face.
Panicked by the horrific scene, Mr. Oliver runs down the path calling for help.
He stops when he sees the watchman with a lantern. Oliver tells the watchman
what he has seen. But soon after, he finds out that the watchman has no eyes,
ears, nose, or mouth. Then the wind blows the lamp out.
“Mr. Oliver was not a nervous or an imaginative man.” How did this
statement prove wrong later in the story?
When Mr. Oliver was returning back to the school from Shimla bazaar which
was three miles away. He usually returned after dark, when he would take a
shortcut through the pine forest. The pine tree made a strong eerie sound when
there was a strong wind. He usually carried a torch, but the battery was running
low. All of a sudden, the flickering light fell on the figure of a boy, who was
sitting alone on a rock.

Mr. Oliver found the boy to be crying with his head hang down, he held his face
in his hands and his body shook convulsively. It was a strange, soundless
weeping. He persuades the boy to tell him the reason why he was crying. When
the boy finally looked up, the boy’s face had no ears, no eyes, nose, or mouth. It
was just a smooth round head with a school cap on it.
Mr. Oliver's torch fell for his hands. He turned and slammed down the path
running blindly through the trees calling for help. He was running towards the
school building, when he when saw a lantern swinging in the middle of the path.
He stumbled up to the watchman, gasping for breath.
The watchman asked him why he was gasping for breath. He asked him whether
there has been an accident. He told the watchman that he had seen something
horrible. He said he saw a boy weeping in the forest and he had seen a smooth
round face. When the watchman raised the lamp. he saw that watchman too that
no eyes, no ears, no feature at all not even an eyebrow.

Therefore, the above answer gives proof that “Mr. Oliver was not a nervous or
imaginative man” is wrong.

account of what the picture suggests to you. Your composition may be

This picture reminds me about my favourite sport football

Football is one of the popular games in the world. It is played in almost 150
countries. It is played between two teams. Each of these teams has 11 members.
The field is rectangular in shape and has a goal post on each end. The main aim
of this game is to score a goal against the opponent team. The team which
scores the maximum goals against the other team wins the match. As the name
suggests, the players play this game by kicking the ball with their feet. The
other name given to this game is Soccer. Each team consists of two centre
forward players, one right out and one left out, four back players and two half
back players, and a goalie. It is not allowed to touch the ball with the hands.
Only a goalkeeper can do so. The other name given to this game is Soccer.

Football has been my all-time favourite game. It has been a source of immense
excitement and enjoyment to me and my family as well. I play for my school’s
football team on the attacking side. I feel a rush in my veins whenever I am
taking the ball forward to the opponent’s goal post and when I score a goal all
my teammates come cheering for me. I have always loved watching football.
Cristiano Ronaldo is my favourite player and he plays as a forward player for
Real Madrid which is a Spanish Club. He is indeed the greatest of all time and
surely the best player in this world. I watch all his matches. I even try to imitate
his moves on the soccer field when I am playing.

The biggest tournament of Football is the FIFA world cup which occurs every 4

years. Apart from that, there are various other tournaments like the UEFA Cup,
Asian Cup (AFC), African completions (CAF), and many more.

Football is very interesting in that every minute takes the viewer’s breath away.
Besides, you can’t predict what’s going to happen the next second or minute in
football. Apart from all this football keeps the one playing it fit and healthy.
