CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD PUBLIC

POLICY

In our country, public policy is a must in order for us to improve as a society

and as a nation. A good public policy has it’s several characteristics. Some of them
are obvious and some of them were specified based in its functions. There are
several given characteristics on when do we call a public policy a good public
policy. The first one is the purposive and goal oriented in which it requires that a
public policy must have its goal in order for it to be successful and long lasting.
Next, we have the product of demand in which the public policy focuses on which
is the most needed or essential products the people need. Public authorities must be
efficient and uncorrupt so that the patterns of actions in making the public policy
will not be tainted with corruption or become unsuccessful. It must also be
participative or convenient and socially acceptable so it will be easier and worthy
for the people who will be involved in the public policy. There are also positive
and negative sides in a good public policy. In positive, it involves government
action to a particular problem which will be beneficial for us. In negative, it
involves decisions by the governmental officials which will be beneficial for the
government but it might not be beneficial for the people. It must be technically
correct so that the goals will not be easily twisted or unaffected by any problems
that will affect the public policy. It must also have a long-lasting effectivity or let’s
say futuristic so it can be beneficial not only to the people where the public policy
were established but also to the future generations who will be needing the benefits
of the said public policies.
