Disconnected the connection and removed the damaged part of cable and connected the cable. Switched on the unit and checked found the unit is not transmitting the alert. Boarded the vessel and reported to bridge. Checked with ship crew as per them the error is occurring during rough seas and choppy weather. Checked the gyro system found to be fitted with Hdm/Oca moritor unit installed with gyro. The function of this unit is to monitor heading from various heading transmitting system and generate the alarm if there is big heading difference. The system onboard has gyro and magnetic compass heading feed for ‘comparison. During rough weather condition as usual the magnetic compass deviate more and the heading is unreliable, Same is sensed by the unit and heading difference alarm is generated by Oca unit. This is normal operation. Checked with crew if there is any error generated in gyro control panel. As per them there is no error in gyro system. The gyro is always showing steady course and there is no problem with gyro. ‘C- Gyro working satisfactory. The Hdm/Oca monitor system function is to generate heading difference alarm when the heading difference between the connected heading transmitting systems are more than the specified settings in system.
