Q1 A shaft of 300 mm diameter rotates concentrically inside 5 CO-1 &

a fixed cylinder of 310 mm diameter. Both the cylinders CO-4
are 300 mm long. Determine the viscosity ‘μ’of the liquid
which fills the space between the cylinder if the torque of
0.98 N.m is required to maintain an angular velocity of
100 r p m. If other liquid having 100% more viscosity is
used for lubrication, What will be the torque required
and change in power requirement.
Q2 A solid rubber ball is subjected to uniform pressure of 5 CO-1
1.45 x 104 N/m2 from all sides which led to the reduction and CO-
4
of volume by 14.5 %. Determine bulk modulus of
elasticity (K) and Compressibility of rubber. If the same
uniform pressure causes the volume change, in solid ball
made up of different material, of 6% only What will be
the corresponding change in K
Q3 A hollow spherical metal ball is completely immersed in water 5 CO-1
(and in equilibrium i.e. not sinking further). The outer and CO-
4
diameter is 60 cm and the sp. Gravity of metal is 7.8.
Determine the inner diameter. What will be the inner diameter,
if the metal ball floats with 50% of depth of immersion?
