NOTES

#2.
Insulator - a substance which does not readily allow the passage of heat or
sound.
Expand - become or make larger or more extensive.
Conductor - a material or object that permits an electric current to flow easily
Contract - To shorten

#3
The inner planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars
Outer planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.

#5
A biome is an area classified according to the species that live in that location.
A community is a group or association of populations of two or more different
species occupying the same geographical area at the same time.
A population is defined as a group of individuals of the same species living and
interbreeding within a given area
An ecosystem is a geographic area where plants, animals, and other
organisms, as well as weather and landscapes, work together to form a bubble
of life.

#6
Weathering describes the breaking down or dissolving of rocks and minerals
on the surface of the Earth. Water, ice, acids, salts, plants, animals, and
changes in temperature are all agents of weathering
Deposition is the laying down of sediment carried by wind, flowing water, the
sea or ice. Sediment can be transported as pebbles, sand and mud, or as salts
dissolved in water. Salts may later be deposited by organic activity (e.g. as sea
shells) or by evaporation.
Erosion is the action of surface processes that removes soil, rock, or dissolved
material from one location on the Earth's crust, and then transports it to
another location. Erosion is distinct from weathering which involves no
movement.
Melting means becoming liquefied by heat.

#7
Condensation is the process where water vapor becomes liquid.
Evaporation is the process by which a liquid turns into a gas
Sublimation is the transition from the solid phase to the gas phase
Precipitation is any liquid or frozen water that forms in the atmosphere and
falls back to the Earth. It comes in many forms, like rain, sleet, and snow

#8
Energy is defined as the “ability to do work”.
A force is exerted on one object by another.
Motion is the phenomenon in which an object changes its position
Rest –an object is said to be at rest if it does not change its position with
respect to its surroundings with time.

#10
The cell wall is the protective, semi-permeable outer layer of a plant cell.

Nucleus  a usually round part of most cells that is enclosed in a double

membrane, controls the activities of the cell.
The plasma membrane, also called the cell membrane, is the membrane
found in all cells that separates the interior of the cell from the outside
environment.

Chloroplast is an organelle within the cells of plants and certain algae that is
the site of photosynthesis, which is the process by which energy from the Sun
is converted into chemical energy for growth

#11
The nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord, sensory organs.
The circulatory system consists of three independent systems that work
together: the heart (cardiovascular), lungs (pulmonary), and arteries, veins,
coronary and portal vessels
The organs of the digestive system are the mouth, esophagus, stomach,
pancreas, liver, gallbladder, small intestine, large intestine and anus.
The skeletal system is composed of four main fibrous and mineralized
connective tissues, bones, ligaments, tendons, and joints.

#15
Conduction is the process by which heat energy is transmitted through
collisions between neighboring atoms or molecules
Friction is a force between two surfaces that are sliding, or trying to slide,
across each other. Friction always slows a moving object down.
Radiation is energy that comes from a source and travels through space at the
speed of light.
