INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS
The Dissolved Oxygen present in the given sample of water = 7.08 mg/l.

INFERENCE
Acceptable limit of Dissolved Oxygen in water is 4 mg/l to 7 mg/l. Water with D.O. less than
4 mg/l is extremely harmful to drink.

INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS
The Biochemical Oxygen Demand present in the given sample of water = 71.68 mg/l.

INFERENCE
Acceptable limit of Biochemical Oxygen Demand in water is less than 6 mg/l. Sewage
dispose BOD level is less than 30 mg/l. If the value is greater than the above range, then it
needs additional treatment before disposal.

The water sample given has BOD Level = 71.68 mg/l. So, It is not within the BIS standard
range for drinking water and unsafe for use.

Determination of TS, TDS and TSS of the given water sample

Date Tested : 05?11?2021

Tested By : Mr. Hrishikesh Kajale

Project Name : Virtual Lab

Sample Number :1/2/3/4

Sample Location : (Put NA if not available)
Sample Description : Surface water/ Ground water/ Sea water

OBSERVATONS / TABULATION AND CALCULATIONS

Volume of sample taken = 50 ml

Total Suspended Solids, (TSS):

TSS = { (W2 – W1) / Volume of the sample } *1000

Weight of empty petridish + filter paper (W1) = 18.0369 gm

Weight of empty petridish + filter paper + Solids (W2) = 18.0528 gm
Total Suspended Solids, (TSS) = 318 mg/lit

Total Dissolved Solids, (TDS):

TDS = { (W4 – W3) / Volume of the sample } *1000

Weight of empty Crucible (W3) = 38.206gm

Weight of empty Crucible + Solids (W4) = 38.2134gm
Total Dissolved Solids, (TDS) = 147 mg/lit

Total Solids, (TS):

TS = TSS + TDS

Total Suspended Solids, (TSS) = 318 mg/lit

Total Dissolved Solids, (TDS) = 147 mg/lit
Total Solids, (TS) = 465 mg/lit

Fixed Suspended Solids, (FSS):

FSS = { (W2 – W1) / Volume of the sample } *1000

Weight of empty muffle pot (W5) = 38.206 gm

Weight of empty muffle pot + Solids (W6) = 38.2114gm

Fixed Suspended Solids, (FSS) = 107 mg/lit

Volatile Suspended Solids, (VSS):

VSS = TSS + FSS

Volatile Suspended Solids, (VSS) = 211 mg/lit

INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS
The TDS of the given sample of water = 465 mg/l.

INFERENCE
The Acceptable range of Total Dissolved Solids in drinking water is <500 mg/l. The water
sample given has TDS = 465mg/l.

So, it is within the BIS standard range for drinking water and Suitable

for use.

Summary

Determination of Dissolved Oxygen (DO) :- The dissolved oxygen level in the water sample is
7.08m/lit.Acceptable limit of Dissolved Oxygen in water is 4 mg/l to 7 mg/l. Water with D.O. less
than 4 mg/l is extremely harmful to drink,therefore it is not within the BIS standard range for
drinking water and unsafe use.

Determination of the Biological Oxygen Demand :-The given sample of waste water has BOD Level
= 71.68 mg/l. Acceptable limit of Biochemical Oxygen Demand in water is less than 6 mg/l. Sewage
disposal BOD level is less than 30 mg/l. If the value is greater than the above range, then it needs
additional treatment before disposal.Therefore, the given sample is not within the BIS standard
range for drinking water and unsafe for use.

To determine the Chemical Oxygen Demand:-Chemical oxygen demand of a given sample of water
is 94 mg/l .Acceptable limit of dissolved oxygen in water is<250 mg/l. So, it is within the BIS
standard range for drinking water and Suitable for use

Determination of TS, TDS and TSS :-The Acceptable range of total dissolved solids in drinking
water is <500 mg/l. The water sample given has TDS=465 mg/l.So the given sample is within the
BIS standard range for drinking water and suitable for use.
