How to Learn a Foreign Language Effectively

Learning a foreign language is challenging and frustrating, but it is one of the most rewarding
skills that one can acquire over a lifetime. Despite the difficulties, bilingualism is rapidly growing in
popularity and becoming the highly-desired resume addition. In my view, the success of mastering
foreign language depends on how we use the methods and master the factors.

The ability to learn a foreign language varies from person to person. Process and progress in
foreign language depends on how the foreign language differs from the first language and the
interference caused by the difference of the two languages.There are two steps that make us learn the
foreign language easily. Firstly, we must know the factors which will influence learning foreign language.
They are linguistic factors and non-linguistic factors. Linguistic factors consist of the basic difficulties of
learning foreign language, the experience of learning foreign language and the relation between mother
language and foreign language.Generally, the foreign language is more difficult than the language is
usually used by us, so the basic difficulties there are in the foreign language.Non-linguistic factors consist
of motivation, materials,purpose, and time.The motivation of learners is different.Some people learn the
foreign language to get enjoyable experiences and express their hobbies. People also learn it to get a job
easily. The material also influences the success in learning foreign language.

Secondly,the method of learning foreign language. There are translation method,direct method,
and reading method.We can learn it from translating the text to get some information from the text.We
can also use it in our daily activities, so we have become accustomed to the language. Reading methods
are also important to learn. After we read and analyze the text, we know the mean and the purpose of
the text.

Now let us discuss about benefits of learning a foreign language.In a globalized world, where
mobility is facilitated, learning a foreign language is a wonderful benefit.It enables us to develop various
mental abilities.Such as: improves memory, enhances the ability to multi-task,enhances decision
making,improves skill, provides better career choices.

Finally,the study of foreign languages teaches and encourages respect for other peoples: it
fosters an understanding of the interrelation of language and human nature. Foreign languages expand
one’s view of the world, liberalize one’s experiences and make one more flexible and tolerant. Two
steps, which are mentioned above, can make it easier to get success in learning foreign languages for us.
Besides, we must also be active to learn it.
