Bike Frame

The main component in the bike is the frame. the known an common material
for fabricate it is steel, with modern days aluminum also starts to be popular
for fabrication too. For high end bikes carbon fiber and titanium are reliable
materials. The main characteristics of the Frame to be stiff, light and strong.
A frameset is the frame combined with the fork.
The most popular kind of frames is ''diamond frame'', this frame composed of
six tubes connected to form two triangles.

Diamond frame

Top Tube
The upper bar connecting the frame, it used to be called as cross-bar and it is
the link you step over when you mount the car.
 Popularly, it goes parallel to the ground
 In mountain bike, it has slightly angled.
 For step throw bike (woman bike) this link is not exists or highly angled
to facilitate the usage of the bike.
Head Tube
The most front tube is called the head tube , it is the shortest tube in the frame
, connecting between the handlebars and the fork of the wheel.

Down Tube
The tube which connects the head tube to pedals is called the down tube , it is
the longest tube in the frame as it goes for longer distance , also due to high
loads of down tube it has the higher thickness between all tubes.

Seat Tube
The tube located under the seat of the rider called the seat tube, it goes from
the saddle to down to pedals joint. The seat accessory is connected to seat
tube top. we can adjust the level of the saddle tube by folding or unfolding
the saddle tube inside the seat tube.

Seat Stays
To connect the rear wheel, there are the seat stays, they are two small tubes
that goes from the saddle, to the rear wheel joint. Also, the chain stays goes
from th paddle joint to the rear wheel joint.
The seat stays and the chain stays are two, comes from right and left to make

the wheel stable

Bike frame types
 Diamond frame
It is the most common in the life of bikes, the oldest and traditional one,
consists of two triangles of tubing. The main triangle has the seat, top and
down tube. The other rear triangle has the seat tube , chain stays and the
eat stays .

 law-step frame
the design removes the top tube or high angled of it to use it for women and
for old people.
There is a lot of advantages.
 less risk problems of clothes
 The rider if she is a women can
wear long skirts
 Easy to deliver as it is easy to
assemble.
 Suitable for women and old
people
 It starts to give an idea for
folding bikes
 The cantilever
the seat stays goes to connect
with down tube to form a
cantilever beam.

 Y-Foil design
It is fabricated in the year of 1998, USA is the invented country for the design, it
weights almost 9,4 KG, with FRAME HEIGHT: 55 CM
The idea continues two years only after that it is banned.
the International Cycling Organization Banne all bikes that not uses head tube.
the head tube acts as flexible arm

the following forces presented on the

bike:

1. The weight of the bike and the rider

acting downwards.
2. The reaction force of the ground, in
response to the weight of the bike.
3. Ththe frictional forces coming from
air resistance and road resistance
