The acknowledgment for a researcher is the section where I thank all people,
i i i i i i i i i i i i
is similar to a dedication, except for the fact that it is formal. Also, I don’t need to
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
mention every single person who helped me with the research- just those who were
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
The majority of legal research acknowledgment relates to the part of the thesis where
i i i i i i i i i i i i i
the researcher shows gratitude to the people who contributed to the research project.
i i i i i i i i i i i i i
the research.

Importance of Acknowledgements i i
Acknowledgments give me the opportunity to thank all those who have helped me in i i i i i i i i i i i i i
carrying out the research. Careful thought needs to be given concerning those whose
i i i i i i i i i i i i i
articles, there may be a short note indicating gratitude to those who have been of
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
immediately after the Table of Contents. However, we noted that in journal articles
i i i i i i i i i i i i i
authors tend to place acknowledgments at the end of the paper, just before the
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
bibliography.

The acknowledgment for a thesis is typically written in the first person, singular or
i i i i i i i i i i i i i
plural. I will have to avoid getting too personal as this section is not meant to be a
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
dedication. I will typically start with the person who was most important in my
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
study. This could be my professor, my supervisor, the staff, or even my family and
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
friends. The last people I should acknowledge are those who played a smaller role in
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
my research.
i i
Acknowledgments don’t have a standard length. It could be just a few paragraphs, or i i i i i i i i i i i i i
it could run for a few pages. The length will primarily depend on the number of
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
acknowledgment for the thesis as short as possible. If it gets very long, it could easily
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
become meaningless. I can limit longer acknowledgments to the few people who had
i i i i i i i i i i i i i
In the acknowledgment for the research, I should try to be very specific. Mention the
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
names of the people I am acknowledging and not just their titles. Some people have
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
trouble remembering the names of people and how they helped me with the research
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
projects. If I have such tendencies, I can consider writing down the names of the
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
people as they offer their help with the research. I should not miss out on any party
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
Though the name self-research seems to imply that all the work is on the researcher
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
it’s actually not. A researcher will find themselves dependent upon others
i i i i i i i i i i i
In self-researching, I will never truly go it alone. All of the major decisions are
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
indeed mine and myself alone and this includes writing an acknowledgment page but
i i i i i i i i i i i i i
there will be others along the way to help me out in any way I may need. I should
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
decide that no matter how big or small a contribution someone made they deserved
i i i i i i i i i i i i i i
