Coaching Tool Three

A coaching tools is a set of questions asked in a sequence so as to help the


client find innovative solutions to their Challenges or goals.

A typical coaching session can be broadly divided into following sections:


-Identification of the Outcome for the session
-Finding Innovative solutions
-Developing SMART Actionable steps
-Building Responsibility & Accountability
Points to Remember (as you coach)
1. As with all conversational coaching processes, we ask a lot of questions
using "How" and "What",
2, Avoid using "Why" questions. If you feel you must use "Why"
remember that Why" may imply judgment so be very careful in using it,
3.Use words like "I'm curious", "Let's explore" or "Tell me more". Use
silence effectively to elicit answers.
4.Ask only open ended questions and never closed ended ones.
S. Stay neutral throughout the coaching session, If you show approval of
client's answers s/he will only give you answers to acquire your
approval. If you show disapproval s/he will give you answers to avoid
your disapproval.
6.Never Judge your client, If you judge your client, s/he will feel that
negativity and may not answer your questions,
7.Never give advice or suggestion during the coaching session.
8.Know that coaching is all about the client. There is no place for coach's
ego in a coaching session.
9.Know that all the sessions are strictly confidential.

Instructions for the Coach :


-Follow the Tool exactly. As a Coach, ask the questions typed in bold,
Take good notes. Write clown the answers exactly as the client gives them.
-If you need to feedback to the client, do not paraphrase. Read back the exact
words.
