Planning a trip in the USA – Transcription

Ella – Barbara
Barbara: So, what are you planning to do this summer?
Ella: I’m planning a really big trip, I’m really excited, I’m going to America!
Barbara: Oh, really?
Ella: Yeah, to the US!
Barbara: Oh wow! For how long?

Ella: For two months!

Barbara: Two months?! That’s a long time!
Ella: I know!
Barbara: Will you be travelling by yourself?
Ella: No, I’m going with a close friend. We’ve both been saving up a lot of money, we’ve both been working in a
bar and a restaurant. It’s the trip of a lifetime, once-in-a-lifetime trip.
Barbara: Yes, it is and it’s going to be a very expensive trip so...
Ella: Yeah, I know!

Barbara: So where would you start your trip first?

Ella: We’re going to fly into New York. We’ll rent a car there, the two of us so we can drive around instead of
flying. And obviously in New York we’re gonna spend a few days recovering.
Barbara: From jet lag, I presume?
Ella: Yeah and then we’ll see the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, you know, we’ll go shopping!
Barbara: In Fifth Avenue!
Ella: Yeah! After New York, we’re gonna head down to Washington, to Washington DC and go to some museums,
do some more cultural things, obviously it’s a political capital so we’re gonna look out for the President.
Barbara: Oh definitely!
Ella: Yeah! That should be fun!
Barbara: Visit the White House! Absolutely visit the White House!
Ella: Yeah, so we’ll look out for the White House. After Washington, I think we’ll go to your state, to Miami, go past
or head through Disneyland, have some fun!
Barbara: Disneyland is actually in California, you’ll have to go to Disney World instead!

Ella: Ok, well we’ll go to Disney World and then after that we’ll go to the Miami beaches, catch some rays!
Barbara: Get a nice tan! You’ll need it after all those long winter months in England!
Ella: I know! And after that, we’re gonna go to Las Vegas because I’m twenty-one so I’ll be able to enjoy everything
but only for a few days because obviously it’s very expensive.
Barbara: Especially if you gamble a little too much!
Ella: Yeah, I know!
Barbara: So, I mean, I like how you’re going to visit all the big cities but don’t you want to visit something a little
more natural to... just relax a bit?
Ella: Er, we were thinking of going to the Grand Canyon which obviously has beautiful natural landscapes.
Barbara: Yeah, you can definitely take a donkey ride to visit the Grand Canyon, too.
Ella: Wow, that sounds cool! And after that, we’re going to finish our trip in California. We’re gonna see Hollywood,
we might spot some celebrities and hopefully go to Los Angeles, which should be a nice way to end the trip!
Barbara: I hope you see Brad Pitt over there!
Ella: Yeah, me, too! Not Angelina, though!
Barbara: No!

 Ella: Do you have any recommendations?
Barbara: If you still want to visit something a little more natural, you could visit the Everglades in Florida and for
something a little more historical, the oldest city in the United States, Saint Augustine!
Ella: Ok!

Barbara: That’s also in Florida!

Ella: I’ve got so much to plan, I’m so excited!
Barbara: I mean, that sounds like an awesome trip!
Ella: Yeah, I know! Thank you! I can’t wait!
Barbara: So you know, I wish you the best trip ever! I’m sure you’re gonna love my country!
Ella: Thank you!
