Research Experience
I am hopeful to gain experience in research for the first time at your institution.
I have worked on several projects and self-studied about various concepts in robotics and automation. Currently I am actively
engaged in studying about learning and intelligent systems and how they can work in the robotics domain.
Moreover, I am interested in autonomous and mobile robotics, computer vision, intelligent systems, ML/DL and AI. I enjoy
studying algorithms and love to implement them in my personal projects.

Statement of Purpose
In college I was regularly involved in inter-college technical contests where I secured top rank in the robotics competitions. I
would like to share two such experiences wherein I feel I gained a lot, both in terms of knowledge and personality
development- My experience at the ABU Robocon 2017 national qualifiers. I was in second year at the time and had gained
enough experience to join the team. Broadly, the task was to build two robots (around 1m3 each) that needed to be aware of
the event arena at all times, move automatically and perform activities like throwing and passing of certain objects. Instead of
the conventional type of motion where the robots have to rotate to change direction of motion, I suggested implementing
holonomic drive, allowing for the ability to move in any direction without actually turning. This dramatically improved our
flexibility and reach in the arena. Because my suggestions showed great efficiency, I was assigned the total responsibility for
programming the motion of the robots and controlling one of them in the event. We secured the 6th rank in the contest and
also defeated the seven-time winning team.
Further, I would like to write about the e-Yantra Robotics Competition 2018 where I was leading a team of four.I took over the
software component and my partner took the responsibility for the hardware. We were required to portray the children story,
the Thirsty Crow. We assembled a line following the robot (the crow) to pick up and drop metallic pebbles via an electro-
magnetic mechanism into specified locations (the water pitcher). The event arena had a maze layout and I designed a path-
finding algorithm for this purpose. Additionally, Augmented Reality (AR) was used to project 3D models of the crow and
pitcher in real-time. We were able to secure a final score in the top 10 ranks of the country. I was exposed to extensive
python, Arduino and embedded-C programming in the course of four months which also greatly improved my ability to work
in critical situations. By being responsible for the entire software part, I was able to sharpen my lateral thinking and problem
solving skills too.
In the summer of 2018, I was selected for an industry internship. Primarily, I was involved in understanding the automated
control and robotic systems installed there. I also had the opportunity to get a practical view of the electrical and
instrumentation applications. I witnessed actual, scaled implementations of things I had only seen in my textbooks. This has
enabled me to think about my future and what I hope to achieve from education in a more nuanced manner. Being the sole
intern in the mill was challenging because I was under everyone’s scrutiny all the time. This also allowed me to work closely
with people and as a result, I have maintained healthy relationships with everyone.
From discovering, exploring and determining my passion in the last decade, I now aim to root myself firmly in my field.
Everyone knows about robotics and AI, I want to understand these and more. Pursuing graduate studies at a global
institution would be a stepping stone for me in this endeavour. My background sets me apart from my peers because I
concentrate more on the practical aspects of education and that is exactly what I feel matters in the professional field. My
experience in teaching which would help in securing a TA position in the department. My technical knowledge would be
valuable to help me understand the concepts taught in the classroom and also, it will allow me to perform well in projects and
extra-curricular participations. The immense career-building potential that is associated with the program and it has been a
factor that gravitated me towards it. My interaction with highly achieving alumni of the program has been positive too. While I
really enjoy doing practical work and hope to enter the industry post my Masters education, I am also excited towards the
research domain. For this reason, I am delighted that I will be in close touch with this side. Definitely, the professors and
facilities offered are world-class at University of Alberta. Moreover, I found the curriculum to be very flexible because it allows
one to be able to personalize greatly how their education shall proceed. This is a big plus that attracts me over other
institutions.

About Your GRE® Score Report

Score Reporting Policies

With the ScoreSelect® option, you can decide which test scores to send to the institutions you designate. There are three options to choose
from:

• Most Recent option – Send your scores from your most recent test administration

• All option – Send your scores from all administrations in the last five years

• Any option – Send your scores from one OR as many test administrations in the last five years (this option is not available on test
day when you select up to four FREE score reports)

Scores for a test administration must be reported in their entirety. Institutions will receive score reports that show only the scores that you
selected to send to them. There will be no special indication if you have taken additional GRE tests. See the GRE® Information Bulletin for
details. The policies and procedures explained in the Bulletin for the current testing year supersede previous policies and procedures in
previous bulletins.

Scores will be sent to designated score recipients approximately 10-15 days after a computer-delivered test and 5 weeks after a paper-
delivered test. If your scores are not available for any reason, you will see “Not Available” in Your Test Score History.

GRE test scores are reportable according to the following policies:

• For tests taken prior to July 1, 2016, scores are reportable for five (5) years following the testing year in which you tested (July 1 –
June 30). For example, scores for a test taken on May 15, 2015, are reportable through June 30, 2020. GRE scores earned prior to
August 2011 are no longer reportable.
• For tests taken on or after July 1, 2016, scores are reportable for five (5) years following your test date. For example, scores for a
test taken on July 3, 2016, are reportable through July 2, 2021.
Note: Score recipients will only receive scores from test administrations that you have selected to send to them.

Percentile Rank (% Below)

A percentile rank for a test score indicates the percentage of test takers who took that test and received a lower score. Regardless of when
the reported scores were earned, the percentile ranks for General Test and Subject Test scores are based on the scores of all test takers
who tested within the most recent three-year period.

Retaking a GRE Test

You can take the GRE® General Test once every 21 days, up to five times within any continuous rolling 12-month period (365 days). This
applies even if you canceled your scores on a test taken previously. You can take the paper-delivered GRE General Test and GRE® Subject
Tests as often as they are offered.

Note: This policy will be enforced even if a violation is not immediately identified (e.g., inconsistent registration information) and test scores
have been reported. In such cases, the invalid scores will be canceled and score recipients will be notified of the cancellation. Test fees will
be forfeited.
