SEX EDUCATION
One of the health and social problems that our country has, is the teenage pregnancy. According to studies,
Peer influence, Lack of parental supervision, inadequate knowledge and education are the major factors and
contributors why the number of teenage pregnancy keep on rising. As a result, many unwanted pregnancies, low
birth weight and delivery occur and it will lead to more serious problems and damage. At this point, I believe that
Sex education must be taught to teenagers whether it is from school or at home.

First, in Sex education, they will learn the importance of having knowledge when it comes to sex because it
includes the sexual activity, reproduction, safe sex, and even the emotional relations and responsibilities. Many
said that sex education is just completely worthless and we’re just encouraging everyone to have sex. When in
fact, prohibiting them to learn what they need to learn is just like tolerating their unawareness and it also reflects
the parenting of their guardians. As guardians, it is their duty and responsibility to open their minds and give
them awareness about this matter for the reason that most of the teenagers are sexually active.

Second, sex education must be taught to avoid health and social problems. Study says that the possibility of
infant mortality is high because the mother is too young to give birth. We should teach them the awareness
because without the awareness, it can lead to abuse of sex which will be a bigger problem later on. We should
help change their perspective when it comes to sex. In terms of social problems, many teenage girls experience
bullying and discrimination because they got pregnant at such a young age. With the right education, we are
helping them to redirect their young minds to take the right path and to protect their youth.

In conclusion, teaching them sex education does not automatically mean they are tolerating everyone to have
sex, they are just helping them to educate and raise awareness because this is a serious matter which needs
immediate response. It is not too late to change! Instead of forcing a teenage mother to accept what happened, we
should focus on giving them the education they need because after all, it’s for their own sake.
