What I Need to Know

This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you master
the skills in an organized event that addresses health/ fitness issues and concern.
The scope of this module permits it to be used in many different learning situations.
The language used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are
arranged to follow the standard sequence of the course. But the order in which you
read them can be changed to correspond with the textbook you are now using.
The human body is the most essential in doing different physical activities. God
created this to be used for acquiring skill, for the purpose of glorifying Him through
doing things to make this healthy. Our body is beautifully created that it should be
developed wholly in mind body and soul. Cognitive skills for goodness, the body that
will work what the mind sets for wellness and soul to do what is right to protect the
body. Physical education is here to develop the wholeness of the person. Through this
field of learning we may create and accomplish something wholesome in a real life
experience. And you as an individual is capable of influencing others and that
includes your family to be healthy as you are given the opportunity to display relevant
competencies, at your level knowledge and skills.
After going through this module, you are expected to:

The question is how we do participate in a physical activity /dance event
during the pandemic? In the new normal setting we should observe proper social
distancing so that the virus will not spread easily and thru social media we are using
gadgets like cellphones, tablets and laptops, computers and internet connections. By
using applications like zoom, google meet, YouTube, “tiktok” and fb live we can
participate an event that addresses health /fitness issues and concern.
What is It
Success in organizing fitness events/ activities depend on a good management
and functional organization. Management ascends the plans and objectives to the
members and partners that will lead them in cooperative and harmonious order. It
entails much thought, research and precise planning in order for the fitness events/
activities to be implemented successfully. It includes financial, legal, safety and
resources, life personnel and facility.
Organization refers to the act or process of planning and arranging the different
parts of an event or activity while Management is the act or skill of controlling and
making decisions and supervising events or activities.
Phases in Organizing Fitness Activities
1. Create the Team Phase – People are the critical aspect in organizing an event.
The creation of a strong event team is very necessary in the success of the
activity. The roles of every member to effectively fulfill necessary functions
should be essentially planned in forming the organization.
2. Planning Phase – This phase to apply principles of events/ activities. Target
goals should be clearly stated and realistic.
3. Research Phase – This is the phase that must be undertaken accordingly to a
well-constructed plan, carefully and methodically.
4. Evaluation Phase – This phase is tied directly to the research phase as the
event manager seeks to determine if the goals and objectives of the event have
been met. This is an ongoing process and actually should occur throughout the
event, to objectively monitor the implementation of the event.
FITNESS ORGANIZING EVENTS
School Intramurals
Intramurals are an opportunity for students to compete against their classmates in
various sports. It is open to all students. The purpose of the intramural program is to
provide fun, safe and structured play experiences that promote the physical, mental
and social development of every child.
Why sports fest or intramural is held in a school?
1. Intramural are held in school with the objectives of developing the psycho-motor of
the students.
2. To promote camaraderie and rapport among the students, instructors and
administrative staffs.
3. Toinculcate discipline among the students
4. To teach them the value of teamwork.
5. To know the value of sportsmanship.
6. To showcase your talents in your chosen field of endeavor to the spectators, so that
others will emulate your character, perseverance, winning ways and awesome talents,
if ever you are a prime athlete of your school.
7. To develop healthy competition among the participants.
8. To develop fair play among the athletes.
9. The ability to shine even under pressure.
10. Improve the personality of the students.
Summer sports clinics
Sports clinics are held every summer, covering all sports and all ages. Summer
is obviously the best time for these clinics since the students don’t have classes and
these sports clinics end up as “summer classes” for them.
But why do sports clinics exist? Why send your children to these clinics?
Let’s review this and you be the judge if you’re sending your kids to the right
clinic and for the right reasons.
Sports clinics are organized to teach the basics of the sport to its students, with
the main goal of introducing the student to the sport. No more. No less. Should things
go well, the student will take up the sport more seriously by trying out for his school
or club’s team. Before an athlete can go into serious sports competitions, he or she
has to learn the fundamentals of the sport.

Recreational Events
These are events that sports enthusiasts and athletes are involved. These are held in
specialized out and indoor venues in different categories for different levels of
participants like cycling events, triathlon, marathons and endurance challenges.
Zumba Dance
An aerobic fitness program featuring movements inspired by various styles of
Latin American dance and performed primarily to Latin American dance music.
Dance troupe or Dance company
This is a group of dancers and associated personnel who work together to
perform dances as a spectacle or entertainment.
Culminating Activities- As a culminating activity, students perform
their dance routine as a group, using the Elements of Dance to communicate
messages, thoughts and stories. In this phase, students apply strategies to learn and
remember choreography.
There are some health issues for dancers and these are:
1. Fatigue/overwork, followed by ignoring early warning signs & insufficient warm
up. Much of the freelance work tends to be project based so often the dancer had
an intense period of rehearsal/performance followed by periods of inactivity. Some
dancers felt it was hard to maintain their body/technique between projects due to
lack of motivation, financial difficulties and having other work commitments.
Would the dancer continue to dance while carrying a significant injury if they felt
loyal to the project or in need of the money? Nearly half the dancers said they
would continue to dance on an injury. Those who said they would sometimes
continue to dance said it would depend on the seriousness of the injury and the
ability to adapt the movement safely. Continuing to dance on an injury was often
related to the dancer's age and stage of their career. Older dancers were less likely
than younger dancers to dance on an injury. Interestingly older dancers were
more concerned with long term consequences of injury. Younger dancers focused
more on the short term.
2. Physical and psychological problems
This question provoked a varied response - the main concern being a lack of
career opportunity and structure, followed by financial stress. Sporadic work,
no regular class, lack of rehearsal space and keeping motivated between
projects, all contributed to general stress. Dancers said they often felt "burnt
out" trying to maintain physical fitness, audition, and choreograph while
maintaining other work commitments they needed to do, in order to stay
financially afloat. Lack of company structure and lack of acknowledgement as
an important, relevant art form where also cited. A number of dancers also felt
that people worked as individuals rather than a collective community, citing the
reason that dancers where competing against each other for work and funding
opportunities.

3. Site of injury
The highest number of injuries occurred in the low back followed by the
shoulder, knee and then foot/ankle.
Life event targeting:
● Physical Health: A “health is wealth” activities, especially outdoor ones
improve one’s health like increasing muscular strength, endurance, flexibility,
body composition, cardiovascular and energy level resulting in more focus for
academic and has a big impact on discipline in other activities. It also
maintaining lowering blood, cholesterol levels and body fats.
● Mental Health: an essential in all recreational activities for managing stress. It
provides a sense of balance and self-esteem that reduces anxiety and
depression. It also an increased motivation to continue activities against
self-distraction. It enriches self-expression, ability interpersonal skills, and
aesthetic sense of facilitating emotional stability and resilience. Such activities
help students to become more self-reliant and self-disciplined.
