Project REAP (Reading Empowerment Amidst the Pandemic): Its Effectiveness

Most of the students in English class in the Modular Distance Learning of Magarao
National High School demonstrated below average reading comprehension and
literacy skills as shown in the result of the Phil-IRI (Philippine Informal Reading
Project Inventory).
Description
(Rationale and A need for reading intervention was identified by the English teachers to improve
Background of reading comprehension skills of the students which could be applied across all
the Study) disciplines. This leads to launch of Project REAP or Reading Empowerment
Amidst the Pandemic. This advocacy program will help students remain in touch
with their learning until formal education system makes a full recovery.

General Objective:

This study aims to look into the effectiveness of Project REAP, as well as to
investigate on the challenges encountered in its conduct.

Specific Objectives:
Objectives
1. identify the level of participation of students in Project REAP
2. determine the effect of the project in relation to their level of
comprehension, and
3. identify the factors that affect the students’ participation in the Project
REAP program.

Methodology The study will use the descriptive research design. Quantitative data will be
obtained from the results of the survey and the actual results obtained by the
students from the given questions for each selection.
