QUESTION 1

The Material Safety data sheet (MSDS) is the essential tool for chemical risk management.
This technical documents will be provided by supplier of the product. Assume that you are
safety personnel in your company which need to provide MSDS to the customer. Develop a
simple MSDS of newly powder metal product made in your company laboratory. This MSDS
should in line with the requirements of safety legislation and must provide at least SIX (9)
categories of MSDS content. Each point consist of 3 marks.

(a) Figure 1 shows a SEM image of material microstructure.

i. Determine the types of materials which have the microstructure as above. Justify
your answer.

ii.Describe the THREE (3) characteristics of that material and its engineering
applications.
[5 marks]

(b) Elaborate thoroughly the guideline on how sample preparation is being done before
the microstructure image is captured.
[10 marks]
(c) Discuss TWO (2) significant of evaluating the microstructure for each material
category. Provide examples of each explanation.

QUESTION 3

Figure 2 : Toys for child below 4 years

(a) Assume that you work at BanDai Entertainment, a gigantic company which produces
toys such as Ultraman Figurine. If you need to fabricate the figurine, indicate THREE
(3) criteria of the toy that you will develop and justify your answer.
[9 marks]

(b) In the manufacturing process of fabricating the toys, solidification in solid also
happened throughout the procedure. Discuss on how solidification happens which can
produce the toys.
[6 marks]

(c) Suggest TWO (2) possible materials that can be used to fabricate toys shown in
Figure 2. Justify your answer.
