Title : VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT (MEN)

Venue : Barangay Poblacion

RATIONALE:
The sport of volleyball originated in the United States and is now just beginning to
achieve the type of popularity in the U.S. that it has received on a global basis, where it
ranks behind only soccer among participation sports.

In 1895, William G. Morgan, an instructor at the Youth Men’s Christian Association

(YMCA) in Holyoke, Mass., decided to blend elements of basketball, baseball, tennis, and
handball to create a game for his classes of businessmen which would demand less
physical contact than basketball. He created the game of Volleyball (at that time called
mintonette).

Volleyball is a team sport that requires great skill and can be very rewarding when
played properly. Certainly considered to be both a competitive and leisurely activity, it can
be played by school teams, professional athletes and families enjoying a day at the beach.

Furthermore, in connection to the strong commitment of the local government to

the campaign against illegal drugs and aggression this sport provides an avenue especially
to those who are drug dependents and surrenderees to leave their previous life and
promote a new beginning to those individuals.

Objectives:
 To promote social, physical, and mental well-being of the youth and local
residents of the Poblacion.
 To develop their talents and discover potential players among them.
 To instill the spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork among the participants
 To campaign against illegal drugs through sports.
 To help address the aggression issue
