Questions to Ponder
Read the questions and instructions carefully. Write your answers in the space provided.

1. Is creativity the same as innovativeness? Read various definitions on these two

concepts and organize your notes using a Venn Diagram.

CREATIVITY
-Shawn Hunter, author of Out Think: INNOVATIVENESS
How Innovative Leaders Drive
Exceptional Outcomes (Wiley, 2013), -Hunter weighs in with his own

imaginative ideas into reality.

2. Explain this quote from Picasso: “All children are born artists. The problem is to
remain as an artist as we grow up.”

All children are born creative; they may lose their creative abilities, however, depending
on which environment they grow up into. All famous artists grew up in a household
where their talents were encouraged and nurtured. Their gifts didn’t develop overnight;
their parents were behind them by providing things they needed to hone their skills. We
are all artists in our own way. The only thing to make it remain as we grow old is that we
need to improve and develop more to become better artists in our own way. We are
unique individual; we are responsible for ourselves to become a better one. We are
need to show case our talents in order to give inspiration to others for them to continue
what they started.

3. How should arts learning be structured so that students can begin to think like an artist?

Arts learning should be encouraged, not structured. Children need to maintain their
natural creativity and critical thinking and problem solving should be encouraged. Do not
over rely on rote learning and teaching to the test. One can teach the basic theories of
drawing and color theory but let the child chose the subject matter for instance. Have
paper, pencils, crayons, clay, Legos, colorful bendy wire, etc. readily available for your
child at home. Interesting junk can make collage type sculptures-look up Joseph Cornell.
We would cut out magazine photos and paste them on paper along with drawings and
make our own story books, writing the text however we interpreted the pictures to be.
Trips to museums are great, but also the child should be exposed to outsider art, theater
and other cultural events. Originality is valued and the arts world may be very different
when the child is grown. In my case it was the development of digital art and video. I
wasn’t trained in these as a child but having problem solving skills allowed me to learn
them as a young adult.

4. What are some best practices in teaching that create an active or student – centered
learning environment?

Teachers encourage student-centered learning by allowing students to share in

decisions, believing in their capacity to lead, and remembering how it feels to learn. In
that way the students will be able to become more active in terms of the learning
environment. We need also to consider the strength and weaknesses of every student
in a learning environment in order for them to adjust and cope up with their challenges.

5. Refer to the characteristics of artistically literate students. Examine yourself and tell
whether you possess any of the characteristics mentioned.
Base on the internet Artistic literacy is a human right and a teachable skill. It is the ability
to connect both personally and meaningfully to works of art and, through this process, to
forge connections to our humanity and the humanity of others.

Base on the meaning I think I possess any of the characteristics because we are all born
artist. We have our own way to become artistic, the thing that all we need is to improve
and show to others what talent do you have. This might also give inspiration to became
more artistically literate.
