a. Write down formula or elongation (δ l )

f. Define bulk modulus.

Q(2) A brass bar, having cross-sectional area of 1000 mm2, is subjected to axial forces as shown in [5]

Q(3) A cantilever of length 2 m carries a uniformly distributed load of 1.5 kN/m run over the whole [5]
length and a point load of 2 kN at a distance of 0.5 m from the free end. Draw the S.F. and B.M.
diagrams for the cantilever.

Q(4) Draw the S.F. and B.M. diagrams for the beam which is loaded as shown in Fig. 6.38. Determine [5]
the points of contraflexure within the span AB.

Q(5) The stresses at a point in a bar are 200 N/mm2 (tensile) and 100 N/mm2 (compressive). Determine [5]
the resultant stress in magnitude and direction on a plane inclined at 60° to the axis of the major
stress. Also determine the maximum intensity of shear stress in the material at the point.
