Mones, Michelle R. (BTVTE-4B) FS-1-Learning-Episode-1-Activity-1.1-Exploring-the-School-Campus
To realize the Intended Learning Outcomes, work my way through these steps:
1. Visit a school. Look into facilities and support learning areas in the campus, then in the
classroom.
2. Observe and use the checklist as you move around the school premises.
3. Analyze your gathered data about the school environment.
4. Reflect on the characteristics of a school environment that promotes learning.
5. Present your idea of a good school environment through any of these:
a. Descriptive paragraph c. Photo essay
b. Sketch or drawing d. Poem, song or rap
Schools and teachers want a learning environment that isn't as old fashioned as traditional
classrooms, but rather is precisely designed to foster thoughts and ideas. They would want a
learning environment that challenges their learning capacity by varying strategies and teaching
practices. They want to be a component of an influential and effective learning environment that
gives them a sense of accomplishment while allowing them to be adaptable and interactive with
their peers and instructors. In a nutshell, they want to be active and engaged participants
throughout the learning process.
A good school environment encourages student's performance, which helps to alleviate many
school problems. It also aids in the reduction of stress in both teachers and students, as well as
the promotion of a more positive mindset throughout all individuals involved. Because educators'
primary goal is to support student achievement, uncovering ways to improve school
organizational climate should be a primary concern. The environment of a school, as well as the
degree to which students feel connected, accepted, and respected, has a significant impact on
students' academic achievement, mental health, and overall school success.
OBSERVE
As you move around the campus, observation forms are provided for you to document
your observations. It is advised that you read the entire worksheet before proceeding to the
school site. A good understanding of the activities and tasks to be accomplished in the activity
sheet will yield better learning results.
Familiarize yourself with the different areas and facilities of the school. Check the column to
indicate their availability. Give a brief description of those that are available, and say how each
will contribute to the students’ learning and development.
Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the
space provided.
1. Look at the walls of the classroom. What are posted on the walls? What heroes, religious
figures, lessons, visual aids, announcements, do you see posted?
The classroom walls differ from what section they belong to, there were
classroom for special classes like SPS for Sports Specialization, SPA for Art
Specialization and SPS for Science Specializations. The other classroom was just
as normal. You can find some wall posters outside classrooms, painted with the
school’s mission and vision, rules about cleanliness and special announcements.
2. Examine how the pieces of furniture are engaged. Where is the teacher’s table located?
How are the tables and chairs/desk arranged?
There are furniture’s in the office of the principal, like tables and chairs. The
teacher’s table is located at their own faculty based on the grade level they belong
in. There is no proper arrangement about the desk; they were placed based on
their wants.
3. What learning materials/equipment is present?
On every classroom, some of them are installed with a Television for educational
purposes. Also, they are using projectors and laptops when lesson is conducted.
4. Observe the students. How many are occupying one room?
The students were chosen by alphabetically arrangement, and then brought in the
classroom, mostly there are 40 students occupying the room, which consist of half
male and female.
5. Is the room well-lit and well-ventilated?
Yes. Every room has a window that could let the wind in, there are also electric
fans on every left and right corner of the classrooms, and the lights are all
working.
An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT
Be guided by these tasks as you do your observation. Then accomplish the matrix to record your
data.
ANALYZE
How do the school campus and the classroom in particular impact the learning of the students
going to school? What are your conclusions?
As we all know, a student's classroom setting serves as a second home for instructions. A
substantial portion of a student's time is spent in a school classroom. They will learn the
many skills deemed essential and suitable for them to compete with the global
community at this location. Given the importance of the classroom, it is essential to
consider how to manage the atmosphere in order to ensure optimum effectiveness in
education.
How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development/how does this
relate to your knowledge of facilitating learning?
Learning environments are essential to student success. Students who study in a positive
learning environment are much more motivated, engaged, and also have slightly greater
learning ability. Students learning in poor environments, those that are uncomfortable,
loud, or full of distractions, on the other hand, might very well find it far more difficult to
absorb information and stay engaged.
REFLECT
1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why? Why not?
Yes. It is because it is near from where I live in, I will not be able to travel a long way to
go to school, that’s my very reason for it. I have also experience in that school but it was
a very short one, if I could have the chance to teach their soon, I would be glad.
The form of school campus that is conducive to learning may differ slightly for various
students, but in general, the campus will contain resources to assist students in their
learning. It would also feature a learning and intellectual growth-friendly environment.
3. What kind of classroom is conducive to learning?
A classroom that is suitable for learning is well-lit, well-ventilated, and has enough
sanitation. It should also be a non-threatening environment where students feel embraced,
that they are not alone, and that there is nothing to be afraid of.
Engaging students in the classroom may be challenging, the teacher’s words and actions
have always had an impact on what transpires in the classroom. It is important to use
active learning approaches, your students are far more likely to interact, participate, and
listen to what is stated.
Regardless of the fact that socioeconomic conditions, gender, and culture all have an
impact on students' learning, teachers can play a critical role in creating a positive
classroom environment and improving student performance.
To promote student learning, education quality, and the production of thriving minds with
high levels of proficiency, we need dedicated and motivated teachers who can change the
course of traditional classroom setup and promote conductive learning environments.
