3. Write an application to the controller of Examination requesting him to postpone the annual
examination by a fortnight as a fair amount of syllabus is yet to be covered in the class.
4. Read the following passage carefully and make notes in proper format:
The energy consumption by human societies has been constantly increasing civilization
began when the primitive man learnt how to produce heat energy by burning wood much later he
began to use coal for producing steam to run his engines and factories. This brought about the
great Industrial revolution. But now some societies have almost entirely become dependent on
fossil like petroleum natural gas and coal. But this pattern will have to change in the next
hundred years or so. Reserves of petroleum is the major source of energy utilized at present in
advanced societies, is dwindling. Vast coal reserves still exist, but both the mining and
combustion of coal involve environmental hazards.
The greatest potential of all lies in solar energy (energy from the sun), as this is unlimited
and nonpolluting. Now there is renewed interest in this ancient energy source, and future
developments may return us to the sun as a major source of neat and power.
