The speaker is Justin Baldoni, he is an actor. He consistently plays roles
where he represents power and manhood. Growing up he always wanted
to fit in with the boys so he rejected all feminism. He held a grudge
against his dad for not teaching him to be tough and how to fight and be
manly. He’s currently the father of 2 kids with a wife. He said he’s spent
his life trying to play a role that he’s not.

He’s trying to end the idea that boys are strong and girls are weak and
that all men need to reject all feminine qualities. Also that men need to
break free from the behavior of concealing their emotions and showing
struggles and weakness. Also to bring to light the problem that men only
follow people who conform to the masculine role. “If we want to be part
of the solution words are no longer enough”

He is currently talking to the Ted Women conference in Nov of 2017.
Although he’s talking to the women in the room he specifically talks to
the men about how they need to change and be better. The 3 groups of
people are the men, the women, and the parents. One of the reasons why
he presented it at a women’s conference could be because then the
women could help the men out and teach their children.

Women’s conference. In the 21st century, equal rights for women are an
issue constantly at the forefront. Most of the world’s cultures expect men
to be tough, brave, and powerful, and recently, society has started to
challenge that idea. Trump has been elected the year before and
feminism and menimism arose.

Asks a lot of rhetorical questions to make the audience question
themselves. Uses humor to maybe catch the attention of the audience.
Well first off he’s kinda hot so the women might listen to him more. He
creates credibility by sharing personal experiences about how he’s
struggled. He shows vulnerability by sharing how he treated his wife
wrong at one time and that he’s working on it. He belittles himself to
make him seem more human. Uses data from his social media to prove a
point.
At first, he’s very conversational but at the end, he changes and uses a
more serious tone to portray how serious the issue is. He was speaking
for all men and their inner thoughts. He uses a more joking tone when
talking about personal experiences but when he calls us to action he talks
louder and gets more serious.
