Last time…
The Purpose Affirmed (vs. 3,4)
“It’s all about the Lord Jesus Christ.”
His Incarnation / His Resurrection

Today…
The Plan Advertised (vs. 5,6)

5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith
among all nations, for his name:
6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:

Today we will consider…

the people to whom the plan is advertised.
the plan itself that IS advertised… how it works, AND…
the project that embodies the plan.
The People, the Plan, and the Project

I. The People (vs. 5,6)

  We and Ye
A. “We” (vs. 5) – Paul and the first generation of Christians.
They were given a great task from the Lord, to spread the Gospel across the
known world.
And they did it!
Acts 17:6b
6 … that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

B. “Ye” (vs. 6) – those who have come to Christ through the witness of that first
generation of Christians.

God has called us to this plan, just as He called Paul and the first believers.
We have come to Christ through the witness of those before us.

1
We are “also the called of Jesus Christ.” (vs. 6)

I. The People
  We and Ye
II. The Plan (vs. 5)
  Receive and Respond
A. Receive [grace status and sent status (apostleship)]
1. Grace Status
a. Paul received grace. – Gal. 1:15,16
15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s
womb, and called me by his grace,
16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen;
immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:

b. We receive grace. – Eph. 2:8,9

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it
is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

II Cor. 8:9
9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was
rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his
poverty might be rich.

2. Sent Status
a. Paul was sent
Paul had both the office of apostle and the gift of apostle.
Rom. 11:13 – the office
13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of
the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
Acts 22:21 – the gift
21 And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence
unto the Gentiles.

b. We are sent
John 20:21
21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my
Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
Mark 16:15
15 …Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every
creature.
Matthew 28:19,20
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have
commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto
the end of the world. Amen.

2
Acts 1:8
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come
upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in
Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the
uttermost part of the earth.

II. The Plan

  Receive and Respond
A. Receive [grace status and sent status]
B. Respond [with obedience and for His name] (vs. 5)
1. With Obedience
When God births us into His family, He intends for us to become
obedient children.
I Peter 1:14-16
14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the
former lusts in your ignorance:
15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner
of conversation;
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

The concept of grace has been distorted in Christianity in our day.

Real Biblical grace does not mean that we can now live in sin and live
however we want to.
Real Biblical grace motivates us to holy lives out of love for the Savior.
Titus 2:11,12
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should
live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

2. For His Name (vs. 5)

Here the Lord addresses our motive for following His plan.
It is “for His name.”

The concept of “name” in Scripture is more than just what we call

someone.
The Lord’s “name” represents all that He is.
Acts 4:12
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name
under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Phil. 2:10,11
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in
heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the
glory of God the Father.

We gladly accept His call and plan, as advertised, FOR HIS NAME!
For His honor.

3
For His glory.
Not for our own.
1 Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for
thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.
Psalm 115:1

We have seen…
I. The People
  We and Ye
II. The Plan
  Receive and Respond
Receive grace status and sent status.
and
Respond with obedience for His name.
III. The Project (vs. 5)
To the faith and to all nations.
A. To the Faith
“faith” vs. “the faith”
“faith” = trust, belief
= believing what God says enough to act upon it.
“the faith” = the whole body of truth from the Scriptures.
Matthew 28:20a
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.

1. Every church involved

Evangelism, baptism, discipleship
Some churches are “good at” one or the other.
We need to work at all three!

2. Every Christian involved

How are you involved in seeing people saved?
How are you involved in seeing people baptized?
How are you involved in seeing people disciples?

You need to have an answer for those questions!

This is the project God has, as His plan for your life!

B. Among all Nations

Our commitment to God’s plan needs to extend beyond our own church and
community.
We need to extend to our Judea, our Samaria, and unto the uttermost parts of
the earth.
Luke 24:47
47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name
among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

We do that by… praying /giving / going.

4
CONCLUSION
As we are ready to enter the final month of the year,
I can’t think of a better message to give us Clearer Vision for Our Mission.
Why not ask the Lord to allow you to see fruit in His mission, His plan for your life,
in the last month of this year.
Why not ask the Lord to allow you to lead someone to Christ this month,
see them baptized, and see them discipled…
Not for your name’s sake, but for His name’s sake!
For the glory of God and the fulfillment of the plan He has for us.
