DESCRIPTION OF NECESSARY MEASURES

Eyes In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with water for several minutes.
Remove contact lenses if present and easy to do so. Continue rinsing. Get
medical attention if irritation occurs.
Inhalation Remove to fresh air and keep comfortable for breathing. If not breathing, give
artificial respiration and get immediate medical attention.

5 FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

SUITABLE (AND UNSUITABLE) EXTINGUISHING MEDIA

Suitable Use foam, dry chemical, or carbon dioxide (CO2) to extinguish fire.
Unsuitable Do high volume water jet as it may scatter and spread the fire.
SPECIFIC HAZARDS ARISING FROM THE CHEMICAL
Extremely flammable liquid and vapor. Vapors are heavier than air and may travel along the
ground or be moved by ventilation and ignited by heat, pilot lights, and other flames and ignition
sources at locations distant from material handling point. Burning or thermal decomposition of
this material in a fire may produce hazardous products, including carbon monoxide, carbon
dioxide, oxides of sulfur, and other toxic gases.
SPECIAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND PRECAUTIONS FOR FIREFIGHTERS
Standard protective equipment for fighting chemical fires should be used, including self
contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and full fire fighting turn-out gear.
Caution: CO2 used for extinguishing will displace air in confined spaces and may cause an
oxygen deficient atmosphere.
Closed containers of this material may explode when subjected to heat from surrounding fire.
After a fire, wait until the material has cooled to room temperature before initiating clean-up
activities. Do not approach containers suspected to be hot. Cool endangered containers with
water spray from a protected location. Move undamaged containers from the hazard area if it
can be done safely.
Water used for extinguishing a fire must be prevented from draining into sewers or being
released to the environment. Decontaminate fire-fighting equipment after use.

6 ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS, PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT, AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

Prevent further leakage or spillage if you can do so without risk. Ventilate the area. Eliminate all
ignition sources. Avoid generation of vapors. Do not breathe vapors or fumes. Avoid personal
contact. Wear personal protective equipment (See Section 8: Exposure Controls / Personal
Protection). Isolate the hazard area and evacuate unnecessary and unprotected personnel.
Ventilate area only if odor control is not an issue.
ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS
Do not release to the environment. Do not allow substance to enter into surface water or drains.
Collect spillage. Contaminated water must be retained and disposed of in accordance with all
local, regional, national, and international regulations. Consult a regulatory specialist to

determine appropriate state or local reporting requirements, for assistance in waste
characterization and/or hazardous waste disposal and other requirements listed in pertinent
environmental permits.
METHODS AND MATERIALS FOR CONTAINMENT AND CLEANING UP
Contain and collect spillage with non- combustible absorbent material such as sodium
bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, calcium carbonate, clean sand or non-acidic clay and then wet
down (dampen) the mixture with water. Sweep or scoop up using non-sparking tools and place
into suitable properly labeled containers for prompt disposal. The sweepings should be wetted
down further with water (see Section 13: Disposal Considerations).

7 HANDLING AND STORAGE

PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING

Do not breathe vapors or fumes and avoid personal contact. Use only with adequate ventilation.
Do not eat, drink, or use tobacco products while working. Keep away from heat, sparks and
flames: No smoking. Keep container tightly closed. Do not enter confined spaces unless
adequately ventilated. Wash thoroughly after handling. Wash contaminated clothing before re-
use. Check that all equipment is properly grounded and installed to satisfy electrical
classification requirements.
Static electricity may accumulate when transferring material. All metal and groundable storage
containers, including but not limited to drums, cylinders, Returnable Intermodal Bulk Containers
(RIBCs) and Class C Flexible Intermodal Bulk Containers (FIBCs) must be bonded and
grounded during filling and emptying operations. To minimize static charge accumulation, flow
rate should be restricted to less than 1 m/s (3 ft/s). When adding product to a hot reactor, closed
system addition is recommended due to product volatility and flammability.
Emptied container retains vapor and product residue and is hazardous when empty, follow label
warnings even after container is emptied. RESIDUAL VAPORS IN CONTAINERS MAY
EXPLODE ON IGNITION. DO NOT CUT, DRILL, GRIND, OR WELD ON OR NEAR THE
CONTAINER. Improper disposal or reuse of the container may be dangerous and/or illegal.
CONDITIONS FOR SAFE STORAGE, INCLUDING ANY INCOMPATIBILITIES
Keep in a dry, cool place. Keep away from direct sunlight. Keep container closed when not in
use. Store in closed containers, in a secure area to prevent container damage and subsequent
spillage. Store in well ventilated area away from heat and sources of ignition such as flame,
sparks and static electricity. Ensure that all storage and handling equipment is properly
grounded and installed to satisfy electrical classification requirements. Observe all local,
regional and national regulations and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Codes that
pertain to the specific local conditions of storage and use.
Store away from oxidizing agents, strong acids, strong bases, and reducing agents.

Work in well ventilated areas. The use of local exhaust ventilation is recommended to control
air contaminants. Provide mechanical ventilation for confined spaces. Use explosion-proof
ventilation equipment. Use mechanical handling to reduce human contact with materials.
Monitor carbon monoxide and oxygen levels in tanks and enclosed spaces. Consult ACGIH
ventilation manual or NFPA Standard 91 for design of exhaust systems.
INDIVIDUAL PROTECTIVE MEASURES, SUCH AS PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
General Hygiene Do not breathe vapors or fumes. Avoid contact with eyes and
skin. Wash thoroughly after handling and before eating, drinking,
or using tobacco products. Wash contaminated clothing before re-
use. Eye wash station and safety shower should be available in
the immediate work area.
Eye/Face Protection Wear safety goggles or equivalent protection.
Skin Protection Wear protective gloves impervious to the conditions of use and
protective clothing. Suitable materials for gloves have not been
determined for this product. The penetration time of the glove
material must be determined by the glove manufacturer and be
observed. This recommendation is advisory only and must be
evaluated by an Industrial Hygienist familiar with the specific
situation of anticipated use by the customer.
Respiratory Protection Where airborne exposure is likely use NIOSH-approved
respiratory protection equipment appropriate to the material and/or
its components. Full face-piece equipment is recommended and,
if used, replaces need for face shield and/or chemical goggles.
Consult respirator manufacturer to determine appropriate type
equipment for a given application. Observe respirator use
limitations specified by NIOSH or the manufacturer. For
emergency and other conditions where there may be a potential
for significant exposure, use an approved full-face positive-
pressure, self-contained breathing apparatus or positive-pressure
airline with auxiliary self-contained air supply.
