INTRODUCTION
Moolans Group is a FMCG company with more than five subsidiaries under
it. I have visited the Moolans Family Mart which is one of the suprmarkets of
Moolans group.This company had a humble and simple startup, after many hardships
faced by the chairman Dr. Varghese Moolan. This person after his graduation
migrated to Saudi Arabia in the year 1981, there he was appointed as the manager of
Al-Saleh Group of companies. In the year 1985 he started a super market, named
Vijay Foods in Al-Khobar and started distribution of grocery products in Saudi
Arabia. When the requirement of grocery started growin, he started an exporting
company with manufacturing facility in Kerala and started exporting goods from
Kerala to Saudi Arabia. This was done using the brand name “VIJAY FOODS”.
As the demand increased more and more commercial stores, manufacurinng
unites and super markets were developes in India and the marketing networks
simultaneously spreadover to 5 continents. And today Moolans Group owns more
than 450 products under the brand name Vijay, Jay, Moolans, Elite etc. And these are
marketed to about 30 countries worldwide.
Moolans group mainly exports spices and spice powders, spice oils, pickles
and chutneys, nuts and dry fruits and other grocery items. The headquarters of this
company is located in Angamaly a small town in Kerala. A unique aspect of Moolans
group is that they uses very less number of advesrtisements for promotion of their
products, but also Moolans group is growing only because of their quality of their
products and services they provide.

FORECASTING TECHNIQUES
Moolans Family Mart is a subsidiary of Moolans Group, which is a supermarket
where all the grocery items are available. I often visits this supermarket as all the
products whichare used in my house are bought from this supermarket.
The forecasting method used by Moolans Group is the demand
forecasting. Demand forecast is the process in which historical sales data is used to
predict the estimate of expected forecast of cutomer demand. Demand forecast
provides an estimate of the amount of goods and services that their customers will
buy in future. So as per the demand forecast, the manager of Moolans Family Mart
makes a list and accordingly they take the stock of goods from the wholesale stores
and their headquarters itself.
On a regular basis they record all the sales activity happening in the
supermarket so that they are able to provide the goods when the stock gets over as
soon as possible. And i have also seen that, daily the goods are taken to the
supermarket. Every product that are needed for a house are available in this super
market. In my locality about 3 supermarkets are there but compared to others
Moolans has a large customers. Most of the people near my house are buying goods
from this store. Hence the demand of goods is higher they have high profit too as they
are not allowing the products to get out of stock which shows their efforts to grow the
company.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

Moolans Group was started as a manufacturing and exporting company.


They mainly exported spices, slowly they started manufacturing curry
powders, pickles, essential oils, and other food products in the brand of
Vijay.
Their production process of the Moolans Family Mart are the following:
• providing sufficient stock
they are not allowing the products to turn out of stock, as soon as the product
starts to get over they are able to re supply that product. This is one of their
major adavantae of the supermarket since when the people come to buy the
required goods they are not making the customers unhappy.
• Supervising the supermarket
The manager always supervises the supermarket and the staffs, like if they are
doing their work properly, goods are sufficent, is the shop is neat and clean etc.
All these helps the shop to attract more customers in order to gain more
profitability.
• Innovation of new ideas
Its been more than 5 years Moolans Family Mart has started working in my
locality. Looking from that time to now i can see lots of changes, when they
inaugurated the supermarket they only provided the essential goods for
example, food products, soaps, and toiletries. In the next year they added
vegetable store inside it, then they added ladies store on another corner of that
supermarket which was air conditioned. Till now they have made a lot a
changes to the shop. Now most of the people are buying goods from this shop
only.
• Offers and Discounts
The people reguarly buying from this store has a offer card which is pvc with
all our details. And the benefit of this card is that the people with this card gets
reduction in prices for all the products we are buying. Also on special
occasions lilke onam, christmas and all extra offers are also provided for the
card holders. Every year we need to renew the card with only Rs.30 to get the
offers. As everyone knows that nowadays vegetables has higher prices, but
Moolans Family Mart provides vegetables at low rate than the MRP on
tuesdays and fridays. All these attracts a huge number of customers.
• Best quality products
they provide the best quality products, mainly their own manufactured food
products and also of other branded products. They always check that if any
products are damaged of has expired, if yes they will replace those products as
soon as possible with good ones.
• Well arranged products
the products are beautifully arranged section wise, which helps the customers
to findout the product easily. Each section names are written and hanged at the
top which is very easier to see.
ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES OF THE SUPERMARKET
 ADVANTAGES
 The major advantage of this supermarket is that the location, its located in front
of the main road near to the bustop where a large number of people are
travelling. Its located in a well noticable area which attracts people.
 Cleanliness of th supermarket is another advantage, which makes the customer
feel good and also makes them feel to come again.
 Well arranged or stacked products categorized on the basis of their uses.
 Home delivery of products is available, we should just make a call or just send
the list of the required products to their whatsapp number.
 E-payments are available
 less waiting time in the billing section, since all the products are having a code
and they just need to scan that product.
 Cctv surveillance is also available.
 Free vehicle parking area for the customers.

 DISADVANTAGES
 I personally felt that there is need of some mstaffs, sometimes every staff will
be busy doing something so that we should wait for them.
 Sometimes some products will not have the price tag, so that when it comes to
billing section it makes difficult task.

QUALITY OF PRODUCTS

The quality of products provided in this supermarket is very good. Only


because of this reason people are buying the products from this supermarket rather
going to nearby other supermarkets.
They provide best quality products at reasonable rate less than the maximum retail
price. This is one of the major benefit of this shop.

CUSTOMER’S SURVEY

Even though i am a regular customer of this above said supermarket, i am 100% okay
to give a five star rating to this supermarket. Ijust talked to few customers on that day
about the function of the supermarket, then i understood that its one of the best
supermarket in our locality. No one had any bad opinions about that supermarket
which signifies that we can give a five star rating for the super market.

CONCLUSION

Moolans Family Mart is growing rapidly, since the managing team behind the
company are doing their best to improve the company’s profile. Moolans Group has
many more subsidiaries other than supermarkets, they also have charitable trusts,
exporting agenciess, agricultural farms etc. In this survey i could understand that their
key role in the improvement of the company is innovation of new ideas itself. Yearly
they are adding more and more elements to the company which helps in the
company’s growth. Through this assignment, it helped me to know more about this
supermarket and it’s working also the forecasting methods used by this shop.
