Given the abundance of audio visual devices from the silver screen to the television to even our phones it's
no surprise that films and movies perhaps enjoy the widest sphere of popularity and availability ,to be more
precise movies and films command the most influence among any form of media present on this earth from
our daily discussions to posters on the roadside to sometimes even the things we buy movies and the
actors which perform in them have infiltrated all spheres of life. Therefore it wouldn't be incorrect to state
that movies are perhaps one of the most influential forms of media a society consumes.

Movies make us more emotional (but not empathetic) but on the contrary people object by saying that a
mere movie can't possibly make us become more emotional ,well watching movies encourages emotional
release. Even those who often have trouble expressing their emotions might find themselves laughing or
crying during a film. This release of emotions can have a cathartic effect and also make it easier for a
person to become more comfortable in expressing their emotions

On the other hand though it has been proven that movies and films of violent nature promote violent
tendencies in people,on the contrary though people state that people who have violent tendencies are
attracted to violent films and not vice versa, though this may be true in some cases ; in between all the gore
and bloodshed shown in movies are the implications of what may happen in the future,in more precise
words in early 1972 the Surgeon General’s Office of the United States National Institutes of Health
announced that for the first time scientific evidence had been assembled from a number of behavioral
studies that showed a causal link between the exposure of children to televised violence and their
subsequent aggressive behavior.
Another way movies influence us is through desensitisation to violence, for example several movies show
gun wielding protagonists blasting their way through hordes of enemies shooting their skulls right open. All
of this casual violence depicted in movies has desensitised the people who grew up watching them,on the
contrary people might say that such a statement is outlandish and that all of this has to do simply with the
person itself as violent people are attracted to violent forms of media but research at the University of Utah
showed that children who had been heavily exposed to violence on TV could also become somewhat
desensitized to it compared with children who had seen little or no TV. This would suggest a possible
emotional blunting of the individual to violence witnessed or even a potential “turning off” of conscience and
concern in the presence of violence.

If you pick the right film to watch when you’re in a bad mood, it can save your day! But given that ,it's
important to control how much we indulge ourselves in watching movies because they possess the ability to
make us more comfortable in expressing our emotions, violent or desensitize us to violence but there are
many positive things about movies too given that they are consumed in moderation. Thus movies are
perhaps one of the most influential forms of media a society consumes with probably the widest
sphere of influence.
