1.

Make a research about the following subtopic of kinematics and write your
research in a clean sheet of paper and send it here in PDF form

a. Speed

b. Velocity

c. Acceleration

d. Falling Bodies

e. Projectile

2. Give atleast 5 solved problems about each subtopic of Kinematics

a. Speed
Speed is measured as the ratio of distance to the time in which the distance
was covered. Speed is a scalar quantity as it has only direction and no
magnitude.

Speed Formula

d
s=
t

Where,

s- is the speed
d- is the distance traveled
t- is the time taken
Problems for Speed:

1. A man walks 20 km in 4 hours. Find his speed.

Solution:

Distance covered = 20 km

Time taken = 4 hours

S = 20/4 km/hr

S= 5 km/hr

2. Cheetah the fastest land animal can run a distance of 250 km in 3 hours. What is
the speed of the cheetah?
D= 250
T= 3 hours

S= 250/3 km/h
S= 83 km/hr

3. A man walks 7 km in 2 hours and 2 km in 1 hour in the same direction.

What is the man's average speed for the whole journey?

d= 7km, 2km
t= 2hrs, 1hr

d= 7km + 2km s=d/t

d= 9 km s= 9/3

t= 2hrs + 1hr s= 3km/hr

t= 3hrs
4. Your dog runs in straight line of a distance of 43m in 28s. What is your dog’s
average speed?

d= 43m
t= 28 s

s= d/t
s= 43m/ 28 s
s= 1.5 m/s

5. Suppose a track travels 60 kilometer in the first hour and 80 kilometer in the
second hours. What is the average speed of the truck?

Distance travelled = 60km + 80km

= 140km
Total time taken= 1hr +1hr
= 2hrs

s= d/t
s= 140/2
s= 70km/hr
d. Velocity

Velocity is a vector quantity that indicates displacement, time, and direction. Unlike
speed, velocity measures displacement, a vector quantity indicating the difference
between an object's final and initial positions. Speed measures distance, scalar quantity
that measure distance, a scalar quantity that measures distance, a scalar quantity that
measures the total length of an object of an object path.

Formula: v = d/t

v =velocity

d=displacement

t= time

Sample Problems:
1. What is the velocity of a car that travels 100.0 meters, northeast in 4.65
seconds?

Distance = 100.0 meters

Time = 4.65 seconds

V=?

Solution

V= d/t

= 100.0m/ 4.65s

=21.5m/s

The velocity of the car is 21.5 meters per second, northeast.

2. An airplane flies 525 kilometers north in 1.25 hours. What is the airplane’s
velocity?
Given: Solution:
d= 525 km v=d/t
t= 1.25 hours = 525km/ 1.25hrs
v= ? = 420 km/ hr. North
3. A shopping cart is pushed 15.6 meters west across a parking lot in 5.2 seconds.
What is the velocity of the shopping cart?

Given:
d= 15.6 meters
t= 5.2 seconds
v=?
Solution:

V=d/t

= 15.6 m/5.2 s
=3 m/s west

4. A girl scouts troop hiked 5.8 kilometers southeast in 1.5 hours. What was the
troop’s velocity?

Given:
d= 5.8 kilometers
t= 1.5 hours
v=?
Solution:
V=d/t
=5.8 km/1.5hrs
= 3.9 km/hr. southeast

5. The motorcycle travelled 500 kilometer north to Liam’s house in 2 hours. What its
velocity?
Given:

d= 500 kilometer

t= 2hours

Solution :

v= d/t

= 500km/2hrs

=250km/hr. north
Acceleration:

Acceleration is a vector quantity as it has both magnitude and direction. It is also the
second derivative of position with respect to time or it is the first derivative of velocity
with respect to time.

Formula:

v−u
A=
t

v
a=
t

where;

a = acceleration

v= final velocity

u= initial velocity

t= time

to 6 m/s in 5 seconds.
2. Cody’s car accelerates from 0m/s to 45 m/s northward in 15 seconds. What is the acceleration
of the car?
3. A car accelerates uniformly in a straight line from 10 m/s to 20 m/s in 5 seconds.
What is the acceleration? (Answer: 2 m/s2)
4. A ball is dropped from the top of a building. After 2 seconds, it’s velocity is measured to be 19.6
m/s. Calculate the acceleration for the dropped ball.
5. A lizard accelerates from 2 m/s to 10 m/s in 4 seconds. What is the lizard’s average acceleration?
Falling Bodies

Free fall is the motion of a body where its weight is the only force acting on an object.

1 2
1. h=  2 ¿

2. v²= 2gh
3. v=gt
Where,

h Height traveled

v Final velocity

g Acceleration due to gravity

t Time taken
