Title: Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) 2
Objective:
1. To understand and simulate ladder diagram operation using PLC programming (CX-
Programming software).
2. To construct ladder diagram to control electro-pneumatic components which consisted of
input (switches and sensors) and output components (solenoid valves) in any simulator
software.
Components:

Table 3: Input Assignment
Figure 10: When pushbutton start was pressed, the feeder motor 3 start to operate
Figure 11: Load Cell 1 detect the material and the conveyor belt motor 1 and 2 activated
Figure 12: Load cell 2 detect the material and the conveyor belt motor 2 remain ON
Table 5: Input Assignment
The lab task in this lab session is divided into two parts, the first of which is to become
acquainted with the PLC programming software (CX-Programmer). Next, construct two simple
applications, which are pressing cylinder and designing a burglar alarm, and roller conveyor
transfer. In Part A, the design was configured in the CX-Programmer setting. In the CX-
Programmer, the ladder diagram was designed. The input contact was addressed as "0.00" and
commented as a "push button". Next, we create an output in CX-Programmer by choosing a new
coil. The output coil was addressed as "100.00" and then commented as an "Output". To make the
ladder a latching ladder, put the new contact and address as "100.00" under the "0.00" input. At
rang 2, insert the contact switch with an address of "100.00" and insert the timer as an output. In
the new instruction key, in "TIM 000 #20" and commented as "timer 1". To simulate the ladder,
compile all the PLC programs and go to the online simulator. In the hardware part, since there is
no hardware to connect. So, this lab only designs ladders in the CX-Programmer.
In part B (a), the ladder was designed to make the plastic components join by the
application of adhesive, heat, and pressure. From the ladder diagram in figure 4, when the
pushbutton was pressed, the coil (labelled as a component) turned on. When the rod piston reaches
the forward end, the timer will turn on for 10 seconds. After 10 seconds pass, the rod piston will
retract back automatically to its initial condition. Next, the input and output assignments were
recorded in the table. The wiring diagram was drawn and shown in figure 5.
In part B (b), the circuit ladder for the burglar alarm was constructed in the CX-
Programmer. When the start button is pressed, the coil (labelled "door open") turns on. Following
that, the timer also turns on and counts for 10 seconds. During the timer's turn on, the coil buzzer
turns on. After 10 seconds, the system is de-activated by the timer. The list table for input and
output devices that were used was listed in the table. Besides, the wiring diagram was drawn and
shown in figure 8.
In the ladder diagram in part B (c) when the pushbutton start was pressed. The feeder motor
feeds material onto conveyor belts. When the material is present on the conveyor belt, the load cell
1 will detect the material and turn on the motor 1. When the conveyor reaches load cell 2, The load
cell two will turn on and the conveyor motor two will remain turned on. The working diagram was
drawn in Figure 13.
