Competency Code : M5NS-llf-ll6.l

Name : ___________________________ Section : ______ Date : __________

School : __________________________ District : _______________________

A. Readings/Discussion
Task No. 1

Lita drives 1.9 kilometers in 0.07 hours just to get the module for her
grade five daughter. What is her average speed?

Task No.2
Emmanuel filled his 63 gallon pool with water in 5.8 hours.
How many gallons per hour did he use?

1
Discussion of Task No. 1

To divide 1.9 by 0.07

Step 1: Change the divisor to a whole number by moving the decimal point
to the right as many places as needed to make it a whole number.

0.͜0͜7 1.9
Step 2: So as not to affect the value of the quotient, also, move the decimal
point in the dividend as many places as it was moved in the divisor.

Step 3: Divide the whole numbers. Add zeroes if needed which serve as a
place holder.

Step 4: Put the decimal point in the quotient directly above the decimal point
in the dividend. Round off your answer up to two decimal places
only.

Final Answer: 27.14

Therefore, the average speed that Lita drives is

27.14 km/hr.

Step 5: Check your answer by multiplying the quotient and the divisor, the
answer must be equal to the dividend. In case there is a remainder,
add it to the product.
27.14 x 7 = 189.98
You notice that there is a remainder which is .02. Add it to the product
to get the dividend.

189.98
+ 0.02
190.00 → this is exactly the dividend. It means
your answer is correct

2
Discussion of Task No. 2

To divide 63 and 5.8.

Step 1: Change the divisor to a whole number by moving the decimal

point to the right as many places as needed to make it a whole
number.

5.͜8 63

Step 2: So as not to affect the value of the quotient, also, move the
decimal point in the dividend as many places as it was moved in
the divisor.

Step 3: Divide the whole numbers. Add zeroes if needed which serve
as a place holder.
___
58 63 __
0.00

Step 4: Put the decimal point in the quotient directly above the decimal
point in the dividend. Round off your answer up to two decimal places
only.

Final Answer: 10.86

Therefore, Emmanuel uses 10.86

gallons per hour to fill in his pool with
water

Step 5: Check your answer by multiplying the quotient and the divisor,
the answer must be equal to the dividend. In case there is a
remainder, add it to the product.
10.86 x 58 = 629.88
You notice that there is a remainder which is .12. Add it to the product
to get the dividend.

629.88
+ 0.12
630.00 → this is exactly the dividend. It means
your answer is correct.
