Angola has already invested 260

million dollars in the national
geology plan
The National Geology Plan (Planageo), which concluded the
geophysical aerial survey of the country's mineral and

survey, at an average height of 120 meters and
with a spacing between lines of 1000 meters,
already concluded, led the authorities to divide
the territory into three work zones. The northern
region of Angola comprises zone 1, the east
region zone 2 the south region zone 3.

Igeo's technical consultant, Paulo Tanganga,

who carried out the technical presentation and
the results achieved by Planageo, said that the
land geophysical surveys in zone 3, which
aimed to "map the thickness of the sedimentary
cover of southern Angola", are also concluded.

In the northern and southern regions of Angola,

he explained, geological mapping at the scales
of 1: 250,000, 1: 100,000 and 1: 50,000 are
completed, regions where samples are being
collected for treatment and laboratory analysis
in mineralogy, petrography and geochronology.

Sampling is also underway in the southern

region of Angola to be subjected to treatment
and laboratory analysis for current sediments
and mining concentrate and the process of
mapping the potential of construction material
and for the manufacturing industry in the region,
he noted.

Paulo Tanganha also pointed out the

occurrence of miners in protected
environmental reserves, as in the Okavango
Basin, "with the potential for diamonds and
irons", when the Law on Conservation Areas is
being revised to accommodate the exploitation
of mineral resources in protected areas .

"All mining activity in the country is carried out

within the scope of the Mining Code, which is a
legal instrument and any attached mining
investment contract has an environmental
impact study attached," assured Paulo
Tanganha, when asked about the exploitation of
mining resources in protected areas.

In relation to the eastern region of Angola, the

chairman of the board of directors of Igeo,
Canga Xiaquivuila, said that the area has just

and specific studies, "conditioned by financial
constraints".

In the east, he explained, "work is currently

halted due to financial constraints and as soon
as we resolve that part we will do the same
work that has already been completed in other
areas".

Among the results achieved, within the scope of

Planageo, the authorities say, Igeo, which has a
Data Processing Center, already has an aero-
geophysical map on a regional scale throughout
the national territory and with the definition of

potential in ornamental rocks, construction
