I. INTRODUCTION
In this chapter, we will discuss the concept of recreation in tourism and
hospitality. Recreation can be defined as the pursuit of leisure activities during one’s
spare time (Tribe, 2011) and can include vastly different activities such as golfing,
sport fishing, and rock climbing. Defining recreation as it pertains to tourism,
however, is more challenging. Let’s start by exploring some recreation-based terms
that are common in the tourism industry. Outdoor recreation can be defined as
“outdoor activities that take place in a natural setting, as opposed to a highly
cultivated or managed landscape such as a playing field or golf course” (Tourism BC,
2013, p. 47). This term is typically applied to outdoor activities that individuals
engage in and that are located close to their community. When these activities are
further away, and people must travel some distance to participate in them, they are
often described as adventure tourism.
Coron, Palawan is a perfect shot for recreation. This place is well known
internationally for its beauty and serenity. Along with the scenery Coron offers
different recreational activities from relaxing to extreme adventure. You can hike in
Mt. Tapyas. Soak in Maquinit Springs. Swim in the hidden lagoon at Twin Lagoon .
Lake Kayangan is also good for swimming. Dive to see the underwater mountains in
Barracuda Lake. Snorkel on a WWII Japanese shipwreck. And more activities.
(Dombrowski J. 2016 , 10 Adventurous Things to Do in Coron, Palawan).
Coron has certain resorts that offer different recreational facilities rather than
swimming pools and rooms to stay. Like Bacau bay they have available; Recreation
Information Center, Dive shop, Alon Spa, Culion Ballroom, Malcapuya Meeting
Room, Fitness Center, Kiddie Activity Center, Pavilion.
This recreation plan evaluates the tourist spot facilities. This encourages the
place to develop and to sustain the place's economy, society and the environment.

II. STATEMENT OF THE PURPOSE OF THE RECREATION PLANNING

The research purpose is a statement of "why" the study is being conducted, or
the goal of the study. The goal of a study might be to identify or describe a concept or to
explain or predict a situation or solution to a situation that indicates the type of study to
be conducted (Beckingham, 1974).
This study will discuss everything about Coron. (1) is to promote the different
recreational activities the can be experience in Coron, Palawan. (2) is to discuss the
different types of facilities that offers a number of accommodations for tourist that are
finding places on spending their leisure time. (3) To develop /innovate existing facilities
in order to follow modernization. (4) For the other purpose, this study it will also help
Coron to balance the sustainability of the place, in spite of providing and offering
different kinds of facilities development and different adventures.
For the future tourists this study will help them to know how Coron became a
fantastic base for adventure such as: Jungle treks, horseback tours and island camping
will further quench your thirst for the ultimate outdoor experience. The purpose of this
study is also to create a road map to an achievable success in the development of
Palawan basically in Coron.

III. THE SCOPE OF RECREATION PLANNING

The main purpose of the scope of the study is that it explains the extent to which
the research area will be explored and thus specifies the parameters that will be
observed within the study.
Coron is the third largest island in the Calamian Islands located in northern
Palawan in the Philippines. Its municipality is found on an island at its north-eastern tip
that faces the Sulu Sea to the east and West Philippine Sea to the north and according
to the 2015 census, it has a population of 51,803. As Coron is best known for a world-
class world war II-era wreck diving, the island also offers limestone karst landscapes,
beautiful beaches, crystal-clear freshwater lakes, and shallow-water coral reefs which in
return attracts the tourist and makes them decide to visit and spend their time in here.
While the actual attraction and scenery, it has is the best way to promote the tourist spot
and be well-known, its best to improve the state of it and think of a way on how it will
gain more attention from the public.
This study focuses on planning for the recreation in Coron, Palawan which will
cover the different types of facilities as well as its development that will help the tourist
attraction or the island itself to be updated and improved the quality of it for a better
accommodation which will be given to the guests/tourists, and the availability of different
recreational activities as well as adventures Coron, Palawan is yet to offer.
The goal of this study is to give enough and proper vision on what else Coron,
Palawan have that will also benefit us, including the people who work for it and
especially its future guests/tourist.
This study also involves an analysis of the residents’ perspectives on recreational
planning through data gathering according to their response on the given survey form.
The data collection in this research will be conducted and restricted within Coron,
Palawan only wherein we provide some questions and by using a survey form it will be
distributed through a google form to a selected 50 residents of Coron, Palawan.

IV. EVALUATING THE RESEARCH FINDINGS

The findings of this study explores the opinions from the residents of Coron,
Palawan about the recreation that might be done in their place. The relative importance
of these determinants was analyzed by them using the survey method via google form.
Results show that the uniqueness of forest landscapes and scenery and special
climate phenomena are two of the most important attributes determining the
attractiveness of Coron’s recreation tourism. The reliability and convenience of access to
recreation sites owing to their remote location are also highly evaluated. The provision of
high-quality accommodation and cuisine is considered an essential component to enrich
visitors’ recreational experience.

VII. CONCLUSION
This study aims to provide logical and statistical guidance toward the preparation
for recreational plan for Coron, Palawan. The coverage of this paper is a report on the
initial stage of the study. The main study should be pursued further to deepen the
consideration of varied factors dealing with how the effects of the changing type of
tourists are manifest in the local environment and the local culture of a place.
Based from the data gathered, It is evident that the two of the most significant
attributes in determining the beauty in Coron's recreational tourism are Its Unique forest
landscapes and scenery and special climate phenomena. According to the interpreted
data of the researchers, maintaining and improving the current state of the recreational
activities in Coron has its upswings and possible downfalls, e.g. . Other tourism sites,
both of similar and distinct features, can be studied as well to enable the derivation of
patterns or trends that will establish clear and accurate understanding of the process.
It can contribute to the reduction of unemployed locals by providing job
opportunities, also tourism sector boosts our economy but on the other hand,
overtourism may occur and lead to the impediment of preserving or improving the said
recreational location. The researchers also determined the benefits of recreational
planning.
The model of analysis advanced in this study can be reconsidered, improved,
and supplemented, or even replaced by a new one if that will enable a more binding
explanation of the phenomenon.
To the Future researchers, the researchers recommends to make full use of this
study as reference and to fill in the gaps the researchers may have missed to
emphasize.
