Preparatory Steps
Remove the rocker lever cover. Refer to Procedure 003-
011 in Section 3 (/qs3/pubsys2/xml/en/procedures/50/50-
003-011.html).
Remove the rocker levers. Refer to Procedure 003-009 in
Section 3 (/qs3/pubsys2/xml/en/procedures/50/50-003-
009.html).
Remove the pushrods and crossheads.
Remove the crankcase breather assembly, if necessary.
Refer to Procedure 003-001 in Section 3
(/qs3/pubsys2/xml/en/procedures/50/50-003-001.html).
Remove the wiring harness, trunking, and wiring harness
bracket, if necessary. Refer to the Troubleshooting and
Repair Manual, QSK Fuel Systems, QSK19, QSK45,
QSK60 and QSK78 Series Engines, Bulletin No. 3666113.

Remove
Remove the cam follower cover.
Remove and inspect the gasket. Discard only if damaged.

Note : Mark the location of the rocker lever assemblies

as they are removed, so they can be reinstalled in the
original location.

Remove the cam follower assembly.

Note : Pull straight out until the shaft is off the ring
dowels.

Inspect for Reuse

 WARNING 
When using solvents, acids, or alkaline materials for
cleaning, follow the manufacturer's recommendations for
use. Wear goggles and protective clothing to reduce the
risk of personal injury.

Clean and inspect the cam follower assembly for reuse.

The shaft must rotate easily. If resistance is apparent,

disassemble and check for burrs on the shaft.

Inspect the cam follower for reuse. The cam follower lever
assembly must be replaced if damaged.

Note : Do not touch the machined surfaces of the cam

follower roller with bare hands. Use rubber gloves or
similar.

The roller must rotate freely.

Measure the clearance of the roller.

Cam Follower Roller Side Clearance

Note : If the clearances do not meet specifications, the

cam follower lever assembly must be replaced.

Install
 WARNING 

Note : Do not touch the machined surfaces of the

camshaft follower roller which have been cleaned with
bare hands. This will cause rust to form. Before
handling, lubricate the camshaft follower roller with
clean engine oil.
Use clean engine oil to lubricate the camshaft and cam
followers.

Install the cam follower assembly. The shaft must fit on both
ring dowels.

Install and tighten the mounting capscrews.

Torque Value:
1. 35 n•m [ 26 ft-lb ]
2. 140 n•m [ 103 ft-lb ]
3. 280 n•m [ 207 ft-lb ]

Install the gasket, cover, and capscrews.

Tighten the eight capscrews in the sequence shown.

Torque Value: 45 n•m [ 33 ft-lb ]

Install the crankcase breather and fuel supply line.

Finishing Steps
Install the wiring harness, trunking, and wiring harness
bracket, if necessary. Refer to the Troubleshooting and
Repair Manual, QSK Fuel Systems, QSK19, QSK45,
QSK60 and QSK78 Series Engines, Bulletin No. 3666113.
Use clean engine oil to lubricate the sockets in the cam
followers.
Install the pushrods.
Install the crossheads.
Install the rocker levers. Refer to Procedure 003-009 in
Section 3 (/qs3/pubsys2/xml/en/procedures/50/50-003-
009.html).
Adjust the overhead using the outer base circle method.
Refer to Procedure 003-006 in Section 3
(/qs3/pubsys2/xml/en/procedures/50/50-003-006.html).
Install the rocker lever cover and all related parts. Refer to
Procedure 003-011 in Section 3
(/qs3/pubsys2/xml/en/procedures/50/50-003-011.html).
