TRANS REPRESENTATION:

THE VIOLENCE OF CIS

ACTORS IN TRANS ROLES

UNDER REPRESENTATION
TRANS EXCLUSION IN THE MEDIA

Hollywood and the entertainment industry are failing to

represent the intersectional identities of the LQBTQIA+
community. Transgender characters are already few and far
between, and when cis gender actors are casted for transgender
roles, the space for transgender actors becomes even smaller
than it already is.

CIS ACTORS IN TRANS ROLES

INCORRECT CASTING

This is harmful to conversations about the trans community.

for example, a cisgender man in the role of a transgender woman,
you’re putting across that a trans woman is “really” a man

CIS ACTORS IN TRANS ROLES

CORRECT GENDER CASTING

According to transsexual author logan ashley, there's mo

inherrent issue with casting cis men as trans men as cis women as
trans women, if we existed in a industry where jobs for trans
actors were plentiful. But as it stands, trans roles should belong
to trans actors because very few other roles do.

WHY IT MATTERS
REPRESENTATION

Trans people need representation in the media because it

translates a message to the viewers. Without representation it
allows stigmas and negativity revolving around the community to
continue.
