In-person classes challenges: ‘Unreadiness’ of students, face

masks

MANILA, Philippines — Audibility issues due to the use of

face masks and the “unreadiness” of some students for in-person
learning were some of the challenges faced during the first
weeks that limited in-person or “face-to-face” classes were held
in the country, an official of the Department of Education
(DepEd) told a Senate panel.

OPINION:
Because of the muted effect of the face mask, it is
extremely difficult to hear the voices of the students and
professors. Face masks have a "muffled effect" on how children
hear their teacher when learning instructions. That is one of the
options we are investigating for this issue. Initially, there was an
issue with schools asking students to wear face shields. It
becomes an issue since, in order to limit exposure, we don't
allow parents to be on the school grounds as much as feasible.
This is a great difficulty for the teachers to manage and handle.
One of the difficulties for teachers is that, in addition to focusing
on learning delivery, they now have to remind our students to
maintain physical distance.
