The EM 1046 MF mainframe is the heart of the modular Mikroport system. At the
Output for monitoring
front of the mainframe, a maximum of 8 diversity receiver modules can be inserted. headphone
At the rear, the RF input module, the AF output module and the power supply
module are fitted. Special rear panel components are available for the simple
connection and monitoring of a number of mainframes.
In addition to the module frame, the mainframe includes a mains socket (rear),
mains switch, monitor module and an active 1-to-8 antenna splitter. The operating
controls at the front are identical for the EM 1046 MF and EM 203 MF and are
explained below. EM 1046 MF and EM 203 MF front panel controls
The EM 203 MF is the small mainframe for the 1046 system. Up to three diversity
receiver modules can be accommodated.
In the EM 203 MF, the rear is already completely equipped. An RF input
module contains BNC sockets for the two diversity antenna and two passive 1-to-3
antenna splitters for supplying the receiver modules.
The EM 203 MF mainframe is not operated with an active RF input module. To
achieve the same gain and frequency selectivity as with the large mainframe, an active
antenna or an antenna booster should be used. The antenna amplifier must operate
selectively within the switching bandwidth of the receiver modules.
The AF outputs are balanced and floating and are present at XLR-3 sockets.
The power supply is handled by the EM 20-NT plug-in mains unit, which must be
ordered separately.
Front operating controls: The operating controls at the front of the two
mainframes are identical. Below the on/off switch, an LED display is located. The
first three lights indicate the supply voltages from the power supply unit.
Below these, the feed voltage for the antenna boosters is indicated. If the current
consumption at the antenna sockets is above 150 mA (short circuit!), a current limiter
is activated. The overload LEDs indicate that the limiters are operating.
The remote switch (only EM 1046 MF) is for controlling the settings via the
Mikroport computer display. It is no longer possible to alter the parameters of the

receiver modules locally.

In systems with the large mainframe, the selective RF input module EM 1046 RI
processes the incoming antenna signals. In multi-mainframe systems, the antenna
splitter modules described below are connected upstream.
Two different hardware versions of the EM 1046 RI are available – one for the
UHF band and one for the VHF band. Within the bands, the module is set at the
factory to a bandwidth of 24 MHz for the UHF range (7 MHz in the VHF band).
The signals within the band are amplified by a typical 14 dB and distributed to
the receiver modules via the bus system. The high selectivity and large-signal strength
of the RF input module is matched for use in multi-channel systems.
The two diversity antenna are connected via N sockets. A supply voltage can be
added for antenna boosters or active antenna.
The EM 1046 ASP antenna splitter modules are used for distributing the antenna
signals to a number of mainframes. Three modules are available:
• EM 1046 ASP 212 (two independent 1-to-2 splitters for operating two mainframes)
• EM 1046 ASP 113 (one 1-to-3 splitter, two modules make it possible to operate
three mainframes)
• EM 1046 ASP 114 (one 1-to-4 splitter, two modules make it possible to operate
four mainframes)
The splitters are connected ahead of the RF input modules. The attenuation of the
passive splitters must be compensated for by an antenna booster or by using an active
antenna. Please take care to have antenna, antenna boosters, RF input modules and
receiver modules operating within the same bandwidth.

• From the deflection in the AF level bargraph he or she can see that only the
“Queen” is speaking or singing at the moment. The deflection for channel number Channel Diversity A

2 (“Dragon”) is probably due to acoustic crosstalk.
• The “Princess”, channel number 6, has got a discharged battery, her status display Diversity B

• The RF level of the “Wizard” (channel number 7) is below the adjusted warning RF level
