RECIPROCATING PUMP
Experiment No: 6

AIM io detemine the efficiency of reciprocating pump.

APPARATUS 1. Stop Watch.

2. Measuring Scale.
Reciprocating pump test rig
3.

THEORY It is device in which mechanical energy is conyerted into

hydraulic energy by sucking the liquid into a eylinder in
which a piston is reciprocating which exerts thrust, on liquid
increases its hydraulic energy. Inthis pump suction vt
and delivery valve are non-return yalves.

PROCEDURE: 1. Start the pump and allow the water to flow ipto the collecting
tank.
Adjust the gate valve for particular discharge.
3. Note down the pressure gauge and vauum gauge
readings.
4. Collect the water for particular rise of leveling
and note thetime.
collecting tank
5 Note dowm the epergy meter readings i.e time taken for ten
revolutions.
6. Repeat theexperiments for different gate openings
