If the final drive as well as the servo motor (control unit) is replaced, there is no need to reload
data (classification data).
Classification data can be read out of the control unit using the PIWIS Tester.
If only the servo motor is replaced, the classification data must be re-written into the control unit.
1. 1.1. Tightening torque for rear screws: Tightening torque: 95 Nm (70 ftlb.)
2. 1.2. Tightening torque for lower front screw: Initial tightening 40 Nm (30 ftlb.) Final
tightening +90°

Fault entries in the control unit
→ Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
→ Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least → Nominal value: 40 A to the vehicle
battery.
Information
The PIWIS Tester II 9818 instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later
Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional
information may appear in PIWIS Tester II 9818 .
1. PIWIS Tester must be connected to the vehicle before starting the Tester. Switch on ignition.
5. Enter the vehicle identification number and press [Enter] to confirm your entry.
10. Control unit replacement must now be selected. Then press [F12] to continue.
Information
Only select the function if just the control unit will be replaced. If the control unit and transfer
gear will be replaced, "Control unit and transmission replacement (together)" must be selected.
11. Write data to new control unit/Start-up must be selected. Then press [F12] to continue.
13. Follow the instructions on the Tester and press [F12] to continue.
14. Select Write data and press [F8] to start. The data is now loaded.
15. The Tester displays the message Data was written successfully to the control unit . Press
[F12] to continue.

6. Clean the connection area to the differential -arrow A- and the shaft sealing ring -arrow B- on
the transmission housing.

Replace the circlip for the right halfshaft flange.

2. 2.2. Pull off the halfshaft flange -3- using a puller T10037 .

Information
Mark the positions of all parts in relation to each other prior to removal. If the parts are not
re-installed in the same position, this will result in too much imbalance, which could cause damage
to the mount and humming noises.
Information
Do not kink the cardan shaft; only store it facing upwards in elongated position with the center
bearing holder.
The cardan shaft is held by a single-lug clip, which must be removed before disassembly.

1. Mark the installation position of the cardan shaft -arrow- on the transmission and on the rear
axle differential.

transmission.

1. 5.1. Oil the external circumference of the new sealing ring with a light coating of oil
and fit it on the pressure piece T40164 .
2. 5.2. The open side of the sealing ring is facing the pressure piece.
3. 5.3. Tap sealing ring in as far as it will go using pressure piece. Do not tilt it.
4. 5.4. Half-fill the space between the sealing and dust lips with sealing grease.

1. Remove side trim panel for rear left luggage compartment. → 700319 REMOVING AND
INSTALLING SIDE TRIM PANEL FOR REAR LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT .
Information
Assembly work may only be carried out if the mechanic is wearing the working clothes and shoes
approved by Porsche.
The new part must only be removed from the ESD (electrostatic discharge) protective packaging
just before installation and at the position at which the part is to be installed.
1. 1.1. Disengage locking mechanisms -a- and swivel control unit for rear-differential
lock out of the holder -b- .
2. 1.2. Pull control unit for rear-differential lock forward out of the clips -2- .

2. Release electric plug connection -1- (-a- ) and disconnect it from the rear-differential lock
control unit -2- .

2. 1.2. Repeat the filling process step-by-step every 15 seconds using 50 ml of oil.
3. 1.3. Oil for all-wheel final drive must come up to the lower edge of the inspection and
filler bore.
