Instructions
Your appointment is scheduled at the Consular Section, U.S. Consulate General Ho Chi Minh City on 4 Le
Duan Blvd., District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
*** Please check restrictions on inter-province or intra-province travel before your departure to the U.S.
Embassy or U.S. Consulate General for your scheduled appointment.
Due to the recent identification of new COVID-19 cases, PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE EMBASSY OR
CONSULATE GENERAL IF YOU HAVE VISITED ANY COVID-19 OUTBREAK AREAS identified by the
Government of Vietnam within the past 21 days. The standard precautions of mask use, hand hygiene, and
social distancing remain in effect within the embassy and the consulate general. In addition, if you are not
feeling well, please do not enter Embassy or Consulate General facilities and please reschedule your
appointment.
In view of potential disruptions to Embassy and Consulate appointment scheduling due to COVID-19 or other
factors, applicants are advised to check the Embassy and Consulate websites and email – including spam
folders – regularly for follow-up information and instructions in advance of their appointment date.**
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Please be reminded that if you made this appointment with an invalid or used barcode, you must fill out
and electronically submit a new visa application form DS-160 and update your profile at least three
working days prior to your appointment date with the valid/new one and print out a new Appointment
Confirmation. If you fail to update it three working days prior to your appointment date, you will not be
allowed to come for an interview and will need to make a new appointment using a valid DS-160
barcode. Please bring the printouts of your DS-160 Confirmation and Appointment Confirmation to your
interview.
You should not arrive more than 20 minutes earlier or later than your scheduled appointment. If you
arrive more than 20 minutes before your appointment, you will be asked to return at an appropriate time.
If you arrive more than 20 minutes after your appointment, you will not be allowed to enter, and will have
to make a new appointment.
Applicants under 17 years old must be accompanied to their interviews by a parent or legal guardian.
Accompanying parents must present the child’s birth certificate and the parent’s identification card or
passport. Accompanying legal guardians must present a government-issued legal guardianship
document and the guardian’s identification card or passport.

required to collect your passport. It is important to note that you must present your original ID card or
any official/government-issued card with your photo. Photocopy of the identity card is not acceptable. If
you cannot pick up the passport at the registered mailing address by yourself, your representative
including your family members must present-
• His/her own original ID card or any official/government-issued card with photo, and
• A photocopy of your ID card or any official/government-issued card showing your photo with your
signature to certify true copy, and
• An authorization letter with both of your signature and your representative's signature containing the
information of the representative's full name as shown on the identity card and your name in full, the
same as shown in your passport, and your passport number
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
You MUST bring the following documents to your interview. Only applicants who bring all required documents
may attend their interviews.
SECURITY NOTICE:
The U.S. Embassy or Consulate cannot provide parking spots for your car/motorbike. We regret any
inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your cooperation.
Do not bring laptop computers to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. You may not enter the building with a laptop
computer. You may not leave laptop computers at the security checkpoint.
You are not allowed to enter the U.S. Embassy or Consulate while carrying any of the following
battery-operated or electronic devices such as:
Mobile phones
Smart watches
Cameras
Audio recorders
Tablets
Portable music players
Please note that these electronic devices will be kept at the security checkpoint when you enter the U.S.
Embassy or Consulate buildings. Your electronic devices will be returned to you when your business is
completed.
ADDITIONAL PROHIBITED ITEMS:
Large shoulder bags/purses - only bags that can be carried by hand will be permitted.
Bags such as travel bags, backpacks, briefcases, suitcases, leather, cloth bags, and zip folders - you
can only carry plastic bags containing application-related papers.
Food and liquid items
Sealed envelopes or packages
Cigarettes, cigars, match boxes, lighters
Sharp objects such as scissors, pen knives or nail files
Weapons or explosive materials of any kind
There is no facility at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate to store these prohibited items. You must make
arrangements to store these items before entering.
This list is not exhaustive. Other items may be prohibited at the discretion of security staff.
