Medan - Monday (11/10) morning, buying and selling activities at the traditional market
located on Jalan ps. Peringgan Medan is still very crowded with residents, both buying
and selling goods.
This traditional market already operated many years ago, even before the Covid-19
pandemic.
This buying and selling activity is still ongoing with the same level of density from
before the PPKM was implemented.
In this traditional market, two places can be used as a place to sell, namely on the side
of the road and in a place that has been provided by the local government.
Visitors who come usually buy food, but some buy household appliances, such as
baskets, brooms, rags or napkins, and other equipment.
In this traditional market, there are not only food vendors, but there are also those who
sell equipment, there are also places to eat, coffee powder sellers, and sellers of other
necessities.
Even though in a pandemic, it seems that some sellers are not wearing their masks, this
is due to the hot conditions in the place. When you are inside or outside (the side of the
road) the temperature is felt quite hot because there are many motorized vehicles, such
as motorcycles, tricycles, trucks, and cars passing by, coupled with the hot sun. The
crowds caused by a large number of buyers and sellers also made conditions at the
location even more congested, coupled with the fishy smell of freshly cut fish.
“We start selling our product a few months after the first PSBB was implemented, at
first we want to follow the government rules during the pandemic, but that doesn’t make
any sense. If we stayed home for a long time, how we can feed our family at home,”
said one of the sellers.
