Human Rights in Islam:

INTRODUCTION

The first thing that we find in Islam in this connection is that it lays down some rights for man as a human
being. In other words it means that every man whether he belongs to this country or that, whether he is a
believer or unbeliever, whether he lives in some forest or is found in some desert he is a human being, which
should be recognized by every Muslim. In fact it will be his duty to fulfill these obligations.

The Right to Life

The first and the foremost basic right is the right to live and respect human life. The Holy Quran lies down:
Whosoever kills a human being without (any reason like) man slaughter, or corruption on earth, it is as
though he had killed all mankind.

"And whoever saves a life it is as though he had saved the lives of all mankind"

Do not kill a soul (this implies animals too) which Allah has made sacred except through the due process of
law ... (Quran 6:151)

"One who kills a man will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise" (al-Bukhari and Abu Dawud).

"Do not kill any old person, any child or any woman" and do not kill the people who are sitting in places of
worship" (Abu Dawud & Musnad Ibn Hanbal).

Equality of Human Beings

"O mankind, we have created you from a male and female." In other words all human beings are brothers to
one another. They all are the descendants from one father and one mother.

PROPHET MUHAMMAD (SAW) SAID: SURELY GOD DOES NOT LOOK AT YOUR FACES OR YOUR BODIES BUT
LOOK AT YOUR HEARTS AND YOUR DEEDS.

Human Rights in the light of (The Last Sermon of Prophet Muhammad SAW)
Uphold human dignity

To attain peace in a society, no one shall harm or hurt one another, or even trespass upon
another’s property. The Prophet s.a.w. continued:

"Hurt no one, so that no one may hurt you."

The Prophet s.a.w mentioned in a hadith:

“A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, so he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him
over to an oppressor. Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfil his needs; whoever
brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allah will bring him out of the discomforts of the
Day of Resurrection. Whoever screens (humiliates) a Muslim, Allah will screen him on the Day of
Resurrection." (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

Honour and respect the rights of women

Women are not the property of men and their rights are given by Allah s.w.t. which no men can take it
from them. The Prophet s.a.w. emphasised the principles of mutual love, trust and respect.

"O People, it is true that you have certain rights concerning your women, but they also have rights
over you." The Prophet s.a.w. later mentioned, "Remember that you have taken them as your wives,
only under Allah's s.w.t trust and with his permission."

“I enjoin you to treat women well and be kind to them”

Do not discriminate

All humankind is from Adam a.s and Hawa a.s. An Arab has no superiority over a non- Arab,
nor does a non-Arab have superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a
black, nor a black has any superiority over a white - except by piety and good action."

Respect for the Chastity of Women

Another important thing that we find in the Charter of Human Rights as granted by Islam (given in
both Quran and Hadith) is that:

“A woman's chastity has to be respected and protected under all circumstances, whether she
belongs to our own nation or to the nation of an enemy, whether we find her in the wild forest or in a
conquered city; whether she is our co-religionist or belongs to some other religion or has no religion
at all.”
Females issues in pakistan:

Shame to born a girl.

In poor families, when a girl is born, some women weep because, to them, a daughter is just another
expense.

Less Educational Opportunities for Girls

Girls in rural areas face many problems especially in backward areas or villages where women are
bound by cultural constraints and prejudices. They have been forced to remain within homes.

Sexual Violence on College Campuses

Females are usually harassed in colleges and universities due to which most of the girls are out of
institutions

Honour Killing

Killing of females by their family members due to the belief that the victim has brought shame for
them and violated the norms of society

marriage before the age of 18 years

Transgender Issues in pakistan

Transgender are neglected by the government and the local societies of Pakistan. There are many
NGOs working for human rights but they also have ignored the issue of transgenders.

We find that in Pakistan the transgender are ignored in every walk of life including, education,
employment, health care and even security of their life. Not only the society, but their families are not
accepting them as their family members.

 Disrespected:

Humiliation faced by the surroundings and Calling names.

Less Job Opportunities:

In Pakistan, they are not even employed in the job sector. Rather, males and females are preferred
to be hired.

 Impact:

This leads them to make money through illegal and unethical ways like, dancing in the events.

No educational rights:

They don’t have access to get education as they are not enrolled in educational institutions. Even if
they get enrollment, they are bullied by others.

Solutions
■ Specific legislations against certain offenses
■ Division of labor: (for Males)
■ Aware and Educate male. (For females)
■ We should respect them as a human and give them chance in every aspects of
life. ( For transgender)
