Proposed Dissertation topic- To do a comparative study of employee engagement in Loreal pre
and post pandemic.

Problem Statement-

The purpose of this study is to research how employee’s engagement practices have changed post
pandemic in Loreal.

The novel coronavirus has not only impacted our work, way of socialization, education and
communication but rather the overall culture. This organizational change has required businesses to
rethink many of their strategies in order to remain relevant. Employee engagement is one such construct
that has been linked to multiple variables of organizational interest and thus is of value to study in the
remote work environment and in the context of Covid – 19.

Introduction-
Employee engagement is critical in every firm because it ensures that workers give their all in every task
they accomplish. Employee engagement is something that every organization wants in order to have a
productive workforce.

The coronavirus illness (COVID-19) epidemic has wreaked havoc throughout the world, affecting both
individuals and businesses, particularly in the context of remote work. This research intends to analyze
the confluence and consequences of remote work and employee engagement in the context of the
COVID-19 epidemic, since employee engagement has been frequently connected to individual and
organizational metrics leading to success. While remote work has become more popular in recent years,
attempts to combat COVID-19 transmission, such as physical separation measures, non-essential
company closures, and lockdown or stay-at-home orders, have resulted in a rapid increase in the number
of people working from home.

To stay relevant, organizations have had to reconsider many of their strategies as a result of this
organizational transformation. Employee engagement is one such concept that has been connected to a
variety of organizational characteristics, making it worthwhile to investigate in the context of remote
work and COVID-19.
Literature Review-
This literature review begins by examining the implications of Covid-19 on various employee
engagement activities and factors affecting employee’s ability to engage in Loreal further this literature
explores impact of Covid-19 on employees.

IMPACT OF COVID -19 ON EMPLOYEE- Throughout the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, people have
been navigating a spectrum of change in their occupational, familial, social, recreational, spiritual, and
physical activities of daily life. As previous research has found, elements of a person’s life outside of
work can have an impact on their ability to engage in and with their organization (Kahn, 1990; Roth &
Baumann, 2014) The Review of Literature presented below is the work conducted by previous
researchers with respect to the field of present study, the nature of the work, the aspects dealt with as well
as brief outcome emerging from the studies.

Monika Kansal (2021)- The researcher made an attempt to examine extensive research and rational
analysis of the impact of Covid-19 on organizational culture and employee engagement. Covid-19 has
presented significant changes & challenges in the manner the organization’s used to function or brand its
culture. Ergo, amongst its instability, insecurity, intricacy, and obscurity, there lies innumerable
opportunities for innovation and growth at both levels i.e., employee as well as employer and it would
depend on them how they leverage it in their favor and emerge as victors in future.

Drew A. Smith, Prithwiraj Choudhury, Gilad Chen, Rajshree Agarwal (2021)- Investigated the
effect of employee engagement on financial performance of firm during Covid-19, which concluded by
linking employee engagement to superior financial performance, our work shows that shared purpose and
strong identification of employees with their organizations to create high employee engagement is critical
not only in weathering a storm, but to adapt, innovate and thrive in a crisis as severe as the COVID-19
pandemic.

Arti Chandani, Mita Mehta, Akanksha Mall and Vashwee Khokhar (2016)- The objective of this
research was to clarify the meaning of employee engagement and identify factors that are critical to its
effective implementation, study results thus concluded that organizations need to instill a sense of
involvement, positive emotions about their work and a sense of community in their employees. Emphasis
should be given employee opinions and opportunities should be provided to them to be heard.
Transparency from the senior leadership will also make the organization culture more open.

Peter Ndirangu (2019)- The researcher made an attempt to examine work environment and employee
engagement at Loreal East Africa. The objective of the study was to establish the effect of work
environment on employee engagement at L’Oréal East Africa. The study thus recommends that the
management of loreal East Africa should better the physical environment of the workplace by improving
spatial layout and functionality of the surroundings this will ultimately help improve the employees
experience and necessitate better performance.

RESEARCH METHOLOGY-

Research Gap- The previous researchers have given valuable information and knowledge of their
studies based on employee engagement at Loreal East Africa, factors for effective implementation of
employee engagement, effect of employee engagement on financial performance of firm during Covid-
19. Some of them are devoted on ability of the employee to engage with their organization. The literature
review reveals the gap that there has not been any considerable research done on the changes that have
occurred in employee engagement activities post pandemic in Loreal. Thus, this study aims to do a
comparative assessment on changes pre and post pandemic in employee engagement for Loreal.

Research Question-

1. To explore the impact on employee engagement instigated by Covid-19 in Loreal

2. To explore and scrutinize new trends which have emerged to increase employee engagement post
pandemic.
3. To compare the various practices followed in relation to employee engagement pre and post
pandemic.

Data Collection-

The research methodology adopted for this research will be a quantitative study with the help of
descriptive survey methods on working professionals in Loreal. The survey will be conducted using
Google forms for gathering requisite information from the employees. Also, for collecting the data in
relation to the practices followed pre pandemic for employee engagement secondary research will be used
that would include methods such as online data, journals, previous researches ctc.
