Sketching is my way of presenting my thoughts on paper. I maintain a journal of sketches

of feats of architecture that stand out to me the most. The above are two sketches I made

of two buildings designed by Zaha Hadid. While some sketches in the journal are

observational ones, these are not.

DESIGN PROJECT - THE DUBAI OPERA
The Dubai Opera is a performing arts centre located in The Opera

District, Downtown Dubai. It was announced by H.H. Sheikh

Mohammed in 2012. The design presented by Janus Rostock of Atkins

was selected, and it opened to the public in August, 2016 .

An earlier proposal to build a performing arts centre on an island in

Dubai Creek designed by Zaha Hadid was announced in 2008,

however it was shelved due to property crash.

Through this project, I wanted to showcase my design for the Opera

House - The Dubai Opera.

Below is a render I created of my design of the south facade.

The design of the south-facing side is inspired by the

Arabian Scorpion. There exists 25 different species of

scorpions in the region, some poisonous, some not, one

feature most share is their narrow, forward-curving tail.

Internship
The following are projects I worked on during

my Internship at a firm called AK Designo over

last summer.

New Office Floor Plan

I was assigned to set the space such that there

is a Material Studio, a manager’s room, a

Four possible divider shelf designs meeting cabin for four, a break out space and

enough desk space for 21 employees.

The challenge here was limited area and I

overcame the challenge by creating a special

desk arrangement. They were arranged in

clusters of 3, in such a manner that there

would be enough leg space and space for

movement throughout the office without the

whole space seeming really conjusted.

Four possible door designs Trying out Interior Designing

The firm, also being specialized in Interior

Design, gave me a few tasks to decorate

spaces.

Given above are digital drawings I created for

two such projects. I was given dimensions and

was asked to create divider shelves for two

different houses.

To the right, is a digital drawing of four

possible door designs for another one of their

home projects .

‘My Street’

Through this simple basic A4 water colour

piece , I hope to represent my street. While

I’ve spent most of my life in Dubai, I do go

back home, to India, once every year during

the summer or winter break and this is where

we stay. The house is over a 100 years old and

this property now belongs to my granddad,

who bought it in 1981.

I have used vibrant colours for the house and

it’s surroundings to really bring out the fact

that the most decorated parts of my life were

the ones I spent here.

This perspective is based on how we see the

house as soon as we walk in through the gate.

This piece is extremely simple, doesn’t have

much detailing, however, it holds a lot of

emotional value to me and brings back so

many memories.
