We at VAK are blessed to bring out the second volume in the series of
books on Anecdotes on Vishnu Sahasranama authored by Sri V S Karunakaran
Swamy.
Sri V S Karunakaran Swamy started this mammoth never before project
of explaining the significance of the 1000 names. Since the English meaning
of this hymn is given in this work, many in this country and those living
abroad, will welcome it. Every name is a mantra by itself, some with two
and some ranging up to eight words. The hymn is an antidote for all ills.
As the author mentioned the benefits which will accrue by reciting the various
name of Vishnu, it has been practically experienced by Devotees at Chilkur
Balaji temple who are the regular readers of VAK in which these Anecdotes
have been serialised. There is immortal ecstasy that can be experienced
by chanting these names individually.
The second Volume has been released on 6th September 2017, as a part
of the Saptatipoorthi celebrations of the Author Sri V S Karunakaran. You
can find the devotees chanting these names endlessly at the Balaji Temple

EDITORIAL... - Devotees Awaiting Constitutional Rama Rajya Avatara
After huge protests by priests and devotees, the Uttarakhand Government rolled back the controversial
Char Dham Management Act. This act of restoration of Dharma was despite Uttarakhand High court upholding
the constitutionality of the Act and is under active examintation by Supreme Court. This brings to light that
Dharma is above all. Late Hon’ble Former Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Former Governor
of Jharkhand and Bihar, Former Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Dr M Rama Jois in the foreword to the
book “GOVERNMENT RULES HINDU TEMPLES” has bequeathed us the great interpretation of how Rule
of Dharma or Rama Rajya is the basic structure of our Constitution. He wrote:-

å{ƒ ∫Á[ÆÊ å ∫Á\ÁDDÃyëÁ tlgÁz å Y tÁulgN˛: @ á™z|m{ƒ ü\Á: ÃÁ| ∫quãoÀ™ ú∫Àú∫™Ω @@
It is not the kingdom, nor the king, it is not the punishment nor the punisher, it is Dharma alone with
which people are mutually protected. In the days of yore, People were acting according to Dharma and
thereby protecting one another. Kings, or kingdoms, punishments or punishers were all for name sake.
One can use the Dharma as tool even in modern society to bring in peace and harmony. The
exposition is that even in the absence of State exercising police power, Dharma has the power and capacity
to ensure peace, happiness and harmonious living among human beings. Thus, Dharma stands above law
for the reason as stated in Mahanarayanopanishad that <<á™|zm úÁú™úåÏtuo>> “i.e., Dharma destroys sinful
thoughts, whereas law provides for punishment after the offence is committed. That is why in Bharateeya
National life, the highest importance is given to Dharma. This is also evidenced by the incorporation of the
statement <<ÆoÁz á™|ÀooÁz \Æ:>> “Yatho Dharmastatho Jayaha” in the emblem of the highest Court, the
Supreme Court of India. It is for this reason, Dr. Radhakrishnan in the Constituent Assembly while supporting
the resolution moved by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar for the adoption of the Constitution, stated that we are reiterating
our ancient ideal qfiÀÆ qfiÊ ÆÜt™|: namely that “Dharma is the King of Kings” which means Dharma is
supreme. He said that our Constitution which is being adopted by the Constituent Assembly occupies the
supreme place as Dharma. This fundamental principle of our Constitution as declared by Dr. Radhakrishnan
in the Constituent Assembly was reiterated by the Supreme Court of India in Keshavananda Bharati’s case
– AIR 1973 SC 1461 which was decided by the largest bench of the Supreme Court, in which they declared
that the supremacy of the Constitution was an element of basic structure of the Constitution.
The author has clearly and rightly stated that our Constitutional equilibrium can be preserved only
by obeying its provisions strictly. The survival of our democracy, the unity and integrity of the Nation
depends upon the realization that constitutional morality is no less essential than constitutional legality,
which in other words means ‘Dharma’ or righteousness.”
In fact, This was demonstrated in Rama Rajya by Lord Rama. Lord Rama is considered the
personification of Dharma. As Dharma raja Yudhishtir said in answers to Yaksha Prashna that Dharma
resides in the inner hearts of each living being and tries to bring him to righteous path, it is important that all
our acts appeal to Dharma for sustainability of peace and harmony.
Today along with the images of Shri Rama, Seetadevi and Lakshmana the above principle that Rule
of Dharma or Rama Rajya is the basic structure of our Constitution has disappeared due to entrenched
colonial consciousness. This is the root cause for several judgements of our Courts which are not in sync
with Rule of Dharma or Rama Rajya as basic structure of our Constitution. One of the recent examples is
the Uttarakhand High Court judgement which took away Art 26 rights of followers of Sanatana Dharma
against the principles enunciated in the Shirur Mutt case. Even though the Archakas by their continuous
protests have successfully convinced the Govt to take back the Char Dham Act from application, still the
Uttarakhand High Court judgement is yet to be set aside by the Supreme Court.
The best way forward for protection of Sanatana Dharma is to ensure that the 'Rule of Dharma or
Rama Rajya as basic structure interpretation of Justice Rama Jois' is mainstreamed in at least the management
of Hindu Temples in the country to start with. As a first step, it is appealed to Government of India to notify
Ruler deity rights of Shri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy of Thiruvanathapuram which is constitutionally valid.
The Ruler Deity rights notification recognizing the existing legal personality of Shri Padmanabha Swamy Ruler
Deity would bring to light the basic structure of our Constitution and would ensure satisfaction of pious purpose
of Travancore Kingdom donation of Shri Marthanda Varma the erstwhile king of Travancore who executed a
deed of donation long ago. This notification enlightening the above basic structure of our constitution would
restore constitutional morality or Rule of Dharma and the fundamental right of people who believe in following
Dharma which will pave way for long standing peace and harmony in the country.

Imperishable Possessor of imperishable Properties

Thirukkannapuram is one among the 108 holy shrines
which were sung by the mystic saints Azhwars.
Lord Sowriraja along with Kannapura Nayaki resides
there blessing His devotees.
During the reign of King Kulothunga Chola, the divine
kshetra of Thirukkannapuram had suffered a lot. The
Chola king came to know of hearsay news that there
were some traces of silver in the outer compound
of Thirukkannapuram temple. His ancestors had already
destroyed a part of the temple’s compound before.
In addition to that, he wanted to set up a naval base
in the seashore of Nagapattinam. For that purpose,
he demolished the homes where close attendants
of the Lord of Thirukkannapuram were staying.
Thus, step by step, he was demolishing each of
the seven compounds which surrounded the holy
temple.
Some may wonder how could the Cholas who had
built many temples for Lord Vishnu and done service
to Him cause harm to the temples of the Lord. But
the Cholas were of the opinion that Shiva alone was
the primordial God and Lord Vishnu is a secondary
deity to him. Since they wanted the blessings of
Lord Vishnu too for their sustenance, they had done
some services here and there to Him. But
predominantly, they wanted to establish the
supremacy of Shiva wherever possible.
The incident of the Chola king taking out the deity
of Lord Govindaraja from Thillai Thiruchitrakootam
(Chidambaram) Divya Desam has been depicted by
actor Mr. Kamal Hassan in his movie Dasavataram.
There was an Araiyar in that holy kshetra of
Thirukkannapuram. Araiyars form a clan who use
to sing Azhwars’ hymns in front of the Lord and
perform abhinayam to explain the meaning of the
hymns.
Enraged by the actions of the Chola king, this Araiyar
went straight to the Lord of Thirukkannapuram. “Oh
Lord! Don’t You have compassion? Don’t You have
eyes? Why can’t you respond to all these misdeeds
of the king?” Asking such questions, the Araiyar
threw his thalams on the face of the Lord in a rage
for His non-response. It hit the face of the Lord and
the scar can still be seen on the forehead of Lord
Sowriraja Perumal.
Then Araiyar went to his home. There he laid down
Jaè„áêÜ«∂Å#∞ =∂~°∞ÛHÀx =ºH˜Î `«##∞ `å#∞ Ѩi=~°Î# KÕã¨∞HÀÖË_»∞.
at his home thinking on what the Lord would do to
stop the misdeeds of the king. All the while he was
repenting for his having hit the Lord with thalam in
a rage.
At that time, a disciple of the Araiyar came to him
saying that one Sri Sabhaanatesa Deekshithar from
Chidambaram had come to see the Araiyar.
The Araiyar said, “His name itself suggests that he
is a staunch Shaivite. What work does he have with
me? I am not willing to see him at this stage. Please
ask him to go back. It is true Thillai Deekshitars
were devoted to Govindaraja there in the times of
Thirumangai Azhwar. Now they have fallen in line with
the Cholas and are doing their best to harm His glory”
The disciple handed over a piece of palm-leaf letter
given by the visitor to the Araiyar. This had been
handed over to him by Sabhaanatesa Deekshithar
anticipating that Arayar might not like to meet him.
There was a verse in Sanskrit in the letter which
read thus:

ÃßÁTo»yß∫oÀotÁ“ ÃßÁu\oÀozå å∫ÁPÆÆÁDuú@@
Arayar asked the disciple to read it. He got the
meaning of the sloka which is as follows:
ÃßÁåbz∆: ÙÏúÁToÁzzD“Ê - I, Sabhanatesa, have come to
you.
ÃßÁ åb≥ÁÁuú Ã™Ê å∫Ê ™z - I am the owner of the stage
of dancing - Sabha, and also the dancer - Nata.
The dancing stage (insentient object) as well as
the dancer (sentient being) are all my properties.
I have such indestructible properties called ‘Nara’.The
word Ram ( ∫Ê) in Sanskrit is based on the root u∫WΩ
Ring meaning the one perishing. So å∫Ê (Naram) means
the non-perishing.
ÃßÁTo»yß∫oÀotÁ“ - This has been said by Bharata
when he came to the sabha (stage) of Ayodhya when
summoned by Vasishta to coronate him.
ÃßÁu\oÀoz å å∫ÁPÆÆÁDuú - Since I have all these
indestructible sentient and insentient beings as my
wealth, I am also called Nara - the One with
indestructible wealth.
On reading this, the Araiyar realized that the visitor

was none other than Lord Narayana Himself. We
can understand this if we go deep into the meaning
of the verse given by Him.
In this universe, there are sentient beings and
insentient objects. The Lord is the owner of the entire
universe - the whole set of sentients and insentient
ones. All of them are indestructible as well. At the
time of deluge, the objects in the universe get
transformed to subtle form. During creation, the Lord
brings them back to gross forms. So there is only
change of form and nothing gets totally destroyed.
Since Lord Narayana is the possessor of such
indestructible wealth, He is called Nara:
This has been demonstrated by Bharata, Younger
brother of Rama, in Srimad Ramayanam. When
summoned by sage Vasishta to accept the throne,
Bharata said,
∫Á[ÆÊ Y E“Ê Y ∫Á™ÀÆ á™˙ ƒOÏ˛Ê F“Á“|uÃ@
“The insentient kingdom is also Rama’s property.
This sentient being me Bharata is also Rama’s
property!”
The same meaning has been echoed by the visitor
(Lord Narayana) in the above verse. We know the
famous English verse:
“The entire world is a stage, all men and women
mere players!”
Thus, the Lord is the owner of the stage called the
universe and also the owner of the entire set of sentient
jeevathmans who are all acting on this stage.
To prove this, He reclines as Sabhapathi - Govindaraja
in Chidambaram. He is the owner of the insentient
Sabha the golden court, as well as the sentient Lord
Nataraja who is dancing on this stage as per the
command of the Lord. The Golden Sabha denotes
the universe which undergoes change in shape but
never perishes and Nataraja denotes living beings
that are also imperishable. Lord Govindaraja, the
Sabha-nata-Easa (owner of the court and actors)
enjoys the dance reclining on His serpent bed!.
Realizing all these, the Araiyar rushed to the entrance
of his home to welcome the Lord who had come in
the disguise of Sabhanatesa.He could see the scar
on the cheek of Sabhanatesa.He begged pardon from
the Lord for hitting Him with the thalam there.
The Lord in the form of Sabhanatesa told him in detail
, “The entire universe is my property. I have created
everything for my enjoyment alone. As per my game
plan - as a part of my sports, I have given the Chola
king a long rope in this world in spite of his misdeeds.
But as the owner, I know how and when to protect
my properties. So, at the right time, the Chola will
get throat cancer and die of that. Ramanuja will return
to Srirangam. Govindaraja Perumal will be reinstated
in Chidambaram. Everything will be fine soon!
Remember that I’m Nara - the owner of the entire
set of sentient and insentient beings that are
imperishable and so am also imperishable myself!”
The Lord added, “As a mark of my action against
evil forces in response to your request, in this kshetra
of Thirukkannapuram, I will hold my Sudarshana
chakra in “Prayoga form” (tilted in an angle to show
it is ready to take off) now onwards, to show the
world that I’m always ready to respond to the demands
of my devotees and to protect my property as per
the schedule!”
Thus Lord Narayana, who owns the entire set of
imperishable sentient and insentient beings, is called
Nara.
Nirukti sums all these when it says

Those who wish to get good moveable and
immoveable properties in their lives can do well to
meditate on the form of Lord VISA Balaji of Chilkoor
and chant
NARAAYA NAMAHA.

VAASANTHIKA PARINAYAM
Story so far:
Post Tallikota war where the three Sultanates –
Golconda, Bahamani and Bijapur joined together to
decimate the then mighty Vijayanagar empire with
connivance of Hande Chiefs, the Ahobilam Temple
was ransacked by Golconda Sultan in connivance
with Hande Chiefs of Maharashtra who were Hindusand
the worship was stopped. There was a massive
integration effort undertaken by 7th pontiff of Sri Ahobila
Mutt. He brought together all the Sanathana Dharma
followers, be it tribals of Ahobilam, noble communities
or the warriors of Vijayanagar into one banner, fought
the Hande Chiefs and the Golconda Sultan army,
drove them away and re-established worship at
Ahobilam temple and paved way for a new powerful
empire and dynasty called Araveedu dynasty of
Vijayanagar which took back almost all lost territories
and became a massive force for long period of time.
The story that did wonders with integration was
Vaasantika Parinayam.Vasantika Parinayam is about
Lord Lakshmi Narasimha of Ahobilam marrying a
Chenchu tribe incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. This
is originally in Sanskrit and Prakrit and is being
narrated now for VAK readers in English. The story
starts with a brief on the Author the 7th Jeer of Ahobila
Mutt who was a great logician, poet and who led
the expedition to restore Ahobilam Temple.Vasantika
Parinayam drama was always enacted at Ahobilam
during Lord’s Vasantotsavam and his trip to over
40 tribal villages which played a major role in
integrating all the people there who raise to protect
the Ahobilam shrine. The drama starts with the
following Mangala slokas worshipping Lord Chenchu
Lakshmi Narasimha and Lord Hayagreeva. Later it
proceeds with prostrations to Adi Van Satakopa
Yatheendra Mahadesikan, the first Jeer of Ahobila
Mutt who insipired and blessed many kings in the
country such as Vijayanagara Empire, Kalinga Empire
etc. First there is introduction of the illustrious
Ahobila Mutt Lineage which housed the Emperors
(Saarvabhouma) of all preachers of Veda Marga or
ã¨Ç¨Ï#O ã¨=Ú„^ŒO Hõ<åfl ÃÑ^ŒÌk.

Sanathana Dharma or also known as Lord Ramanuja’s
philosophy. The drama has started with Lord Lakshmi
Narasimha out for hunting and Lord Devendra
preparing to come to have his darshan. Sudathi,
Princess of GandharvaRaja pleases Goddess
Mahalakshmi by her dance, pleased Mahalakshmi
grants her boon which is nothing but making Lord
Narasimha, husband of Sudhathi. In order to make
this happen, Sudhathi is born as hunter’s daughter
in AhobilaKshetram with Goddess Lakshmi herself
inside her. Lord Narasimha who went for hunting
had a glimpse of this beautiful girl and instantly
fell in love with her. After several strategies Lord
won the heart of the beautifulgirl and she started
longing to see him again. King Shoorasena, father
of princess Vaasantika was worried to see the plight
of his daughter. Kadambika learns about Vaasantika’s
fever for Lord Narasimha. Meanwhile Vasantika’s
friends are trying to provide solace to her but in
vain.They had invited Vigjnyanavathi who predicted
that Lord Ahobilesa will marry Vaasanthika.The
prediction session is going on.
Vasanthika: (In her mind) Where is that kind of
power of penance for me? Lord Lakshmi Narasimha
marrying me is like the golden Meru mountain having
relationship with a small grass stalk. He is so great
and I am so low.
Friends of Vasanthika: (As if they remembered
something suddenly) Friend! Vasanthika! On that
day when we completed the Pooja of Vanadevatha,
we heard a great commotion of a king coming for
hunting! Do you remember?
Vasanthika: (Having remembered) Yes! Friends! What
you say is true. What happened at that time? We
thought that some king or prince has come for hunting
and we quickly tried to leave the place. What is
in it now for us?
Friends of Vaasanthika: Do you know who that
king was? He was none other than the King of Ahobila
Kshetra, Lord Lakshmi Narasimha. On the pretext
of hunting he came to win your heart. We saw him
looking at you with his lotus like eyes and it was

Vignanavathi: Yes! That is the truth! That
Purushottama is now thinking about how to marry

Lakshmi also told me that ‘ From the day of he
going to hunting Lord is undergoing the pain of a
Lover longing to meet his heart throb’. She is also
extremely worried looking at the condition of the

Ramanuja’s Journey to Sharada Peeth – Kashmir

Lord Ramanuja, the great Vaishnavite seer whose
1000th year birth day was celebrated this year
throughout India with pomp and glory. He was a seer
who brought to light the concept of the whole universe
as one family : Vasudhaivakutumbakam and brought
to light the right understanding and interpretation of
Vedas and established equal chance for all living
beings to attain salvation at the end of the current birth
by surrendering before the Lord – Saranagathi. In
order to putforth his understanding Lord Ramanuja
had to first understand what his predecessor Acharyas
have done to explain the Vedas. On this account he
visited atleast twice to Sharada Peetham of Kashmir
which was the seat of Goddess Saraswathi and a huge
store house of learning known as Shree Bhandaram.
VAK is attempting to bring the interesting items of this
effort of Lord Ramanuja to its readers. In the effort, there
are places where certain incidents and characters have
to be created for purposes of dramatization. Most of the
characters thus created are based on circumstantial
evidence from History, Guruparampara and Rajatarangini
text. This is to convey the main message of events,
practices, debates etc. recorded in the works of Lord
Ramanuja, Rajatarangini and other historic and religious
books.
Story so far:
Obtaining the ordainment of Lord Varadaraja of Kanchi,
Lord Ramanuja and Kuresa set out to study
BoudhayanaVruttiGrantha at Sharada peetham in
Kashmir. With the help of Keshavacharya who was
till recently Prime Minister of the Kingdom along with
the help of Kshitiraja met the emperor Anantaditya
Deva to request for help in obtaining the Boudhayana
Vruttigrantha to study and write the meanings for
Brahmasutras of Sage Veda Vyasa.
They first met the Prime Minister Haladhara. At that
time, Bimba, brother of current Prime Minister
Haladhara brings the news of defeat of Champa King
and asylum of Champa prince in Kashmir. He also
brings the news of several Buddhist monks headed
by the great scholar Bruhadvaasubandhu coming in
a scholarly debate expedition to conquer the scholars
of mainland India all the way from Champa with an
aim to convert all into Buddhism. Some of the Monks
have challenged Kashmir scholars to have a scholarly
debate with them.Bimba and Kshitiraja request
Ramanujacharya to participate in the debate and he
agrees to it with certain conditions. First debate between
Shambhu Swamy and Bruhadvaasubandhu took place.
BruhadvaasuBandhu has defeated Shambhu Swamy
in debate and Lord Ramanuja was invited to protect
the Vedic tradition and culture from the onslaught of
Buddhist arguments. Fearing defeat of their guru the
two disciples of Bruhadvaasubandhu plotted against
Lord Ramanuja and Kuresha which was identified and
thwarted by alert Keshavacharya.The two disciples
of Bruhadvaasubandhu were arrested and jailed. Lord
Ramanuja corners BruhadvaasuBandhu with his
prowess in logic. Unable to bear the logical onslaught,

BruhadvaasuBandhu accepted supremacy of Lord
Ramanuja and took to Temple service in Chakradhara
Temple. Emperor Anantaditya Deva ordered the
Saraswathi Peeth Head to allow Lord Ramanuja and
his disciple to refer the sacred original text of
BoudhayanaVruttiGrantha and he along with the entire
royal entourage accompanied Lord Ramanuja in the
journey to Sharada peeth. Parahasapura and its
beautiful temples were built by Emperor Lalitaditya
Muktipada. There he met Kshemendra, the great poet
in the court of Emperor Anantaditya Deva. Kshemendra
was initially a disciple of the Great Saiva-Shakta Advaiti
saint Abhinavagupta and later he became Vaishnava
choosing Somacharya as his Guru. Kshemendra vowed
to help the cause of Lord Ramanuja and at once
undertook to travel with them to Sharada peeth.
Enroute Kshemendra started telling about his story
and how his wife’s severe stomach ailment was cured
by Somacharya invoking 5 power deities Varaha,
Nrusimha, Vamana, Vishnu and Sudarshana. In order
to secure the surroundings of Kshemendra’s house
so that the disease does not return, Somacharya went
around the house to make a spiritual protection cover
around the house of Kshemendra. While doing so he
asked Kshemendra’s servant Shambhu to dig at a
spot in the south-west corner of the house. There they
found black magic on wife of Kshemendra and it was
ritualistically thwarted by Somacharya. This lead to
Kshemeendra becoming Sri Vaishnava with proper
panchasamskara from Somacharya. At this time the
entourage was nearing Varahamoola. On the
insistence of Lord Ramanuja, Poet Kshemendra is
narrating the Sthalapurana of Varaha moola as
mentioned in Nilamata purana. He said that this place
gets its name after Lord Vishnu’s Varaha incarnation
which first took place first for Vanquishing Hiranyaksha
and next to Vanquish Jalodbhava who is invincible
in water. All the Devas made grand preparation with
army to kill Jalodbhava.
These grand preparations did not make Jalodbhava
uneasy in any way, as he felt himself quite secure
and invincible in his home of waters, wherefrom
he would not come out. The water had, therefore,
to be drained off. Anantanaga on the ordinance
of Lord Vishnu broke the peak and moved the
mountain even to cut off a path through the mountain
banks of the Satisaras so that water does not enter
the lake from Himalayas. With that bunds also being
broken, the majority of water rolled off with the
dashing noise of high waves. At this the Daitya
was not a little discomfitured. He caused
darkness to spread over, but this was soon
dispelled by Siva, who held the sun and the moon
in his hands. Following this, Lord Vishnu took
another form, the divine Varaha and engaged the
Daitya in war while he was also watching the war

from the southern side of the lake. The Demon got
himself in the residual water and Lord Vishnu took
the form of Varaha to uplift the land in that residual
small lake where Jalodbhava was taking refuge and
completely dried it ennerving the daitya. He then
beheaded him with Sudarshana Chakra. Thus in
the chief part of the horrible fight the beheaded
Daitya’s body created extreme delight of all Gods
and Goddesses and they all praised Lord Vishnu
and payed respects to him. The Divine boar form
of Lord Vishnu was taken here and hence it is said
to be Varaha Moola. As indicated in Mahabharatha
in theertha yatra prakarana, in fact it is the same
place where long long ago when Maha Pralaya
happened Lord Brahma lost the whole earth to
Hiranyaksha, it is said that Lord Vishnu took the
form of Boar exactly at the same place. Thus we
see how Satisaras was turned into the present land
of the happey valley and Varaha moola became
a divine abode of Lord Vishnu.
The Chakra, which was let loose by Lord Vishnu
after cutting off Jalodbhava’s head continued its
journey to identify all bad elements and destroying
them. Looking at this type of destruction which
has been inflicted to evil souls, Lord Siva mistook
as uncontrolled weapon destroying the world and
trying to hold it. Due to devotion to Lord Vishnu
he could hold the Chakra. He then took it to Lord
Vishnu who was smiling at the ignorance of his
devotee and asked him to return the Chakra to him.
To this Lord Siva replied in a jocular way, “I got
this on my own while it was going around. How
can I give it to you? If you can take it from me
with your own powers then you can try and get
it. I will then give accede it to you.” Lord Vishnu
said ‘so be it’ and in a smiling way with his divine
powers took back the Sudarshana Chakra paralyzing
lord Siva for a moment from inside. This shows
that Lord Vishnu is inner controller of all or
Sarvabhutantaratma. He also smiled then jocularly
at Lord Siva. Lord Siva understood the power of
Lord Vishnu and praised him in front of all Devas.
Sage Bruhadashwa concludes the narration here

Lord Vishnu also suggested installation of Siva and
parvathi idols to recapitulate this incident and in a
way the scene has been installed in this place for
worship.

Queen Yashomathi and later Bala Gonanda in their
respective reigns constructed massive temples to Lord
Vishnu at various notable places in Kashmir such as
at Parihasapura, Varahamoola etc., which was maintained
and further expanded by subsequent kings.”
Kshemendra concluded the narration of main
Sthalapurana of Varahamoola to Lord Ramanuja and
Kuresha who listened to this with rapt attention and
with devotion.

ringing as rituals for Ardhajama pooja were being

The screen suddenly got removed and in the Sanctum
Sanctorium stood a gigantic Bhuvaraha with his
consorts. The Moola bera was a very large Salagrama
shila form which is said to be a Swayamvyaktha
or the Lord himself converted him into this form.

light falls on the Lord who is decked with golden
armour and he suddenly becomes bright with golden
rays mixed with dark blue Indra neela rays.

contentious anti-conversion Bill propose?

The Karnataka legislative Assembly Thursday passed
The Karnataka Right to Freedom of Religion Bill, 2021,
commonly referred to as the anti-conversion Bill, amid
Opposition protests. It prohibits conversion from one
religion to another by misrepresentation, force, fraud,
allurement or marriage. The Bill will now go to the
Karnataka Legislative Council.
The Bill states, “No person shall convert or attempt to
convert either directly or otherwise any other person
from one religion to another by use of
misrepresentation, force, undue influence, coercion,
allurement or by any fraudulent means or by marriage,
nor shall any person abet or conspire for conversions.”
It, however, provides an exemption in the case of a
person who “reconverts to his immediate previous
religion” as “the same shall not be deemed to be a
conversion under this Act”.
According to the proposed legislation, complaints
regarding conversions can be filed by family members
or any other person who is related to the individual
who is getting converted. A jail term of three to five
years and a fine of Rs 25,000 has been proposed for
those violating the law in the case of people from
general categories, and a jail term of three to 10 years
and a fine of Rs 50,000 has been mooted for those
converting minors, women or persons from SC/ST
communities.

The Bill also envisages payment of a compensation of
Rs 5 lakh (on court orders) to victims of conversion by
the persons attempting the conversion, and double
punishment for repeat offences. Marriages conducted
with the intention of conversion can be declared null
and void by a family court or a jurisdictional court. The
offence of conversion has been deemed to be a
cognizable and non-bailable, that can be tried in a
magistrate’s court under the proposed law.
Any person intending to convert to another religion after
the law comes into force will have to notify the district
magistrate two months in advance. The person who is
carrying out the conversion must provide one month
notice, and the district magistrate must conduct an
enquiry through the police on the real purpose of the
conversion, says the draft Bill.
Not informing the authorities will result in a prison term
of six months to three years for persons who convert,
and a term of one to five years for those carrying out
conversions.

The Bill also requires the person who gets converted
to inform the district magistrate of the conversion within
30 days, and he/she must appear before the district
magistrate to confirm their identity. Not informing the
district magistrate will lead to the conversion being
declared null and void.
Once the conversion is confirmed, the district magistrate
will inform the revenue authorities, social welfare,
minority, backward classes and other departments of
the conversion, who will, in turn, take steps with respect
to the entitlements that the person may receive in terms

Charitable Endowment Department website, there are
34,558 temples in the state under comes under

Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on
Wednesday said that the government plans to
introduce a new bill to free temples and Hindus
religious institutions in the state from government
control. He announced this at the BJP state executive
meeting in Hubli.
“Hindu temples are under different types of control
bylaws and rules. Before the budget session, a law
would be given shape to make our temples free from
such restrictions. Temples will be allowed to function
freely, and there will be only regulations,” he said.
He pointed out that prayer halls of other communities
are safe under different laws and are free to perform
without government regulations.
According to Hindu Religious Institutions and
Charitable Endowment Department website, there are
34,558 temples in the state under comes under
government regulation. Those generating more
revenue will be under ‘A’, those generating little less
revenue will be under ‘B’, and temples not generating
any revenue would be under ‘C’. The idea is to make
use of a portion of the revenue generated in ‘A’ and ‘B’
categories for rejuvenation of ‘C’ category temples.
Among the famous temples coming under the
department are Kollur Sri Mookambika temple,
Chamundreshwari temple in Mysore and
Ranganathaswamy temple in Mandya. The temples
are regulated through Karnataka Hindu Religious
Institutions and Charitable Endowment ACT 1997.
He further said that a task force would be set up to
implement the anti-conversion law, and proper
implementation will be undertaken. The Bill is yet to
be cleared in the upper house. “Leader of Opposition
Siddaramaiah says this (anti-conversion) law will be
scrapped within a week if the Congress comes to power.
His dream will not come true, they won’t come to power.
The law ensuring freedom for all to practice their religion
will remain permanently,” Bommai said.
Responding to the allegations, a Congress
spokesperson said that people are watching how the
BJP is targeting the minorities in the state. “First of all,
the BJP came to power in the state with immoral

methods since they couldn’t win a majority on their
own. Drunk on this power, they passed legislation that
are targeting minorities. People of the state will respond

Meanwhile, BJP’s senior Karnataka leader Anwar
Manippady said that he won’t be attending the party’s
two-day executive committee meeting being held in
Hubli, because of the attitude of other leaders. “I’m an
invitee also. I am the Executive Committee member
of the party. I just returned from Mangaluru and at the
last moment, I thought I will not go (to the meeting)
because the attitude of them is not welcoming for us to
go there. So, I won’t go there,” he told reporters.
Asked about the present BJP government in the state,
he stated it has failed in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s
concepts. “The concept of ‘Sab ka Saath, Sab ka Vikas’
is been neglected and not happening at all... such a
good concept has gone. They are going against it by
totally neglecting minorities, especially Muslims.”
“I have umpteen examples of how they are harassing
the Muslim minority by denying their rights for a decent
burial. The burials, which have been functioning for
10 to 12 years in Goonadka, Sullia in Dakshina
Kannada district and Parappana Agrahara in
Bengaluru and other places, hooligans with the help of
police goondas in Sahakarnagar stopped and locked
up a functioning mosque,” he said.
Manipaddy also accused the state government of
taking no action against encroachments of Wakf
properties, despite the Supreme Court order to look into
the report submitted to the government, and alleged the
culprits have indulged in heavy bribery.

that the Karnataka government will free Hindu temples
from laws and rules that require the temple

God's creation is beautiful. In
Moinabad Mandal, Ranga Reddy district there
is a small village Chilkuru. There is Sri Balaji
Venkateswara swamy temple in this village.
It is like another Tirupati. I came to this village
with my sister in 2002 to offer my prayers.
We met the priest and he advised us to do
pradakshinams and Lord will fulfil our
desires. Within six months period my sister's
marriage got fixed and we could conduct
marriage very smoothly. We are very happy
that Lord Balaji had fulfilled our prayers.
