BIBLICAL SOURCES
It is generally sufficient to just indicate which version(s) of the Bible used the first
time a biblical text is quoted. Indicating biblical sources in the “Bibliography” section
is optional, unless the specific nature of the thesis requires it.

Example 1:
According to Pope Benedict XVI, the all-encompassing nature of
liturgical spirituality is succinctly expressed in St. Paul’s admonition:
“I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present
your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is
your spiritual worship” (Rom 12:1).1

It is not obligatory to indicate biblical references in the footnote. They can be
inserted within the body of the text in parenthesis either as a literal (direct) quote,
such as Example 1 above, or as a paraphrased (indirect) quote:

The prayer reformulates the conviction that in the Eucharist, the

daily bread we ask for is no longer simply ordinary bread for our bodily
nourishment, but above all the Living Bread, Jesus Christ, who gives
himself so that those who believe in him may have eternal life (cfr. Jn
6:51).

There are cases however when putting biblical references in the footnote is more
convenient if, for example, multiple references are indicated:

In a certain way the ancient formula echoes St. Paul’s exhortation:

“Qui autem gloriatur, in Domino glorietur” (2Cor 10:17), we have no other
motives of glory except in Christ, and the salvation he has won for us.1
